So me and my friends were watching Moulin Rouge! the other day and we were wondering if Moulin Rouge! could ever make it to Broadway? What are your opinions on this?

I doubt it, I imagine it'd be copyrights hell to get all those songs on stage unless they already had discussed stage options when they got the rights to use the songs in the film.
It's one of my favorite movies, definitely my favorite Nicole Kidman performance, and I think it'd be beautiful and exciting on stage.

This is only the 5th time I've seen this topic.
The movie is great, the acting and music is outstanding... but I think it's unlikely they'd be able to pull it off without a "wicked" budget and going through some insane copyright issues. Will we ever see it? Maybe. But I don't think it's likely, especially while the economy is in the dump.

It has already been produced on stage for a European tour in 2008-09, so I think it's more of a question of an English-language transfer unless Broadway producers wish to start from scratch.

That's interesting, Mister Matt. I didn't know that. I believe Baz Luhrman has expressed interest in doing it but nothing seems to have come of it.

La Boheme was a nightmare for him, I doubt he would come to Broadway any time soon.
Copyright for the songs used on the film is not the issue, as they were secured to be used within the context of the franchise. But he won't let anyone else stage the show,and i doubt he'll come back to Broadway for this.
