Could The Birdcage Be Successful as a Musical ?

I think of a public message board as something akin to people with similar interests chatting at a cocktail party. We might smile at someone who had never heard of LA CAGE, but we wouldn't say, "You should go to the library and do research before you speak or ask a question."
I don't think the snarking is so bad in this thread (and gleek has certainly been a good sport); but I will repeat that the scroll bar is everyone's friend. If I find a post hopelessly naive and don't care to correct the poster, I simply scroll on by. What's the big deal?
(I'll admit a vested interest here: if I researched everything I post, I'd never do anything else! I'm perfectly happy to be corrected by other posters.)

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the number of Stephen Sondheim songs that were in "The Birdcage" (with more that were written for it and not used). If they were to be used in a stage version of "Birdcage", then he would have written songs for a remake of the show that trounced "Sunday in the Park with George" back in 1984.

And most of you are correct. After my (I admit it now) stupid question I did kind of enjoy the zingers. A few things I learned:
1. Google before you post
2. I should listen to La Cage
3. Never underestimate the wit of fellow posters
If you get a chance, also look it up on youtube too and read about the show's history.
To me, it is Herman at his best. The original production was one of those theater moments you just can't forget: jaw-dropping. Simple, funny and touchy while edgy and elegant. The opening number is out of this world and the Act I finale can be cathartic.
The creators were more inspired than ever when they came up with this gem.

I've always though that Rent could work really well as a tragic opera.
Does anyone agree?
Also, I feel strongly that a sequel to Wicked that talks about what happened to the Witch could make a really compelling movie.
Does anyone agree with that too?
