The man originated two Comden and Green roles.
Appeared in the original production and film of AUNTIE MAME.
Contributed hysterical photographs to Patrick Dennis' two very funny faux biographies.
Attention must be paid.

Wow, I didn't know he was still alive. I'm surprised he wasn't interviewed for various Broadway documentaries. (Or if he was, I missed it.)
RIP to one of the notables from the Golden Age.

his partner of 62 years and recent husband NYCB dancer Shaun O'Brien passed away about 2 weeks before Mr. Alexander.
Love and grief, such sadness.

Sounds like he had a good life.
I too just assumed he had passed years ago. I bet he had AMAZING stories.

Posted: 3/20/12 at 11:44pmThe (almost) original cast recording of ON THE TOWN from 1960 is still one of the treasures of musical theatre history, and Cris Alexander was an important part of that history. And yes, his photos for the "Little Me" book were hysterical. I did not know he was still with us, but he was a wonderful footnote for all of us to remember.

RIP Mr. Alexander. I never had the luck to see him perform, but those photos for LITTLE ME and FIRST LADY are joys in themselves.
Flights of angels sing him to his rest.

This may be the nicest thing I've ever read in any obituary. From today's Times. We could all do well to take a page from Cris Alexander's book:
In the interview with Show Music, Mr. Alexander recalled what his acting teacher, Marjorie Jefferson, once said.
“Tell me, Cris,” he quoted her as saying, “you were such a good actor, why did you never amount to anything?” Then she paused, he said, before adding: “No that’s not true. You were about the most ambitious person I’ve ever known — ambitious to have a lovely life.”
