"Finding Neverland" will have not closed yet and like others I would recommend "Something Rotten"

You can't go wrong with The King and I.
And if you really want to stay away from depressing shows, I'd say Bright Star or Tuck Everlasting. Both are flawed but I left feeling really happy. And it shouldn't be difficult to avoid paying full price. I'd lean a little more towards Bright Star only because I think Tuck works better for younger audiences. But Tuck has a great set that based on his other likes, might appeal.

He sent me the following list: The King and I; Fully Committed; Fun Home; Finding Neverland; and Tuck Everlasting. He said if he had to choose, his top pick would be The King and I.
This is actually an easy call -- The King & I. (I loved Fun Home -- but it's a short evening, and it's not a very happy story). Go See K&I -- you'll whistle a happy tune all night long.
(And since it's a special occasion -- get your tickets in advance -- middle Orchestra or Front Mezzanine are best -- you don't want to miss when your ship comes in.)
ENJOY

We sat to the side in the orchestra and saw the ship fine. Paid much less than full price for this view.

So I talked to my husband- apparently he likes big, lavish spectacles. As he said, with the ticket prices we're paying, might as well go big or go home. So after reading more and discussing it, he's choosing The King and I (plus we both want to see Daniel Dae Kim).
i asked him why he liked Dear Evan Hansen when it's also a bit depressing and he said because it had humorous parts to its. He found nothing in Miss Saigon humorous. The best part of Les Mis to him is Master of the House, etc.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies! I'll be back in the area in June too and may add Something Rotten to the agenda!

Since it's a Saturday, hit a second show. Long Day's Journey Into Night or Blackbird would give the weekend some balance .

Enjoy the King & I. I have not seen it or Something Rotten ( will see both on tour this year.) My husband sounds quite similar to yours and has enjoyed the same type of big splashy musicals. For what it is worth, I asked him what other shows he especially liked. The list included; On Your Feet, Kinky Boots, & Finding Neverland. Have a great trip and will look forward to both yours & your husband's critiques after.
