specially if its shot at the Marquis.
I haven't found bootlegs of Woman in White, Drowsy or Cry-Baby any more watchable than ones in any other theaters.
Not that I've... you know... watched them.
Really, though, I'm kind of of the belief that bootlegs should only be for those who love and want to relive a show.
Back to the topic at hand - I want a cast recording so that bootlegs (at least of the audio variety) aren't necessary.

When I saw the show last the conductor told me they were planning on doing it in May about 3 weeks after the show opens.
and guys, can we please stop this bootleg and trash talk?
I'm all for recording most shows but I don't think this will happen. FOr one, the producers would have to pony up most of the funds and based on their paltry numbers and the number of comps they've handed out, which hasn't done much for their word of mouth, this turkey will be lucky if it plays long past opening (or even opens at all). Even those who sort of like it can't find much reason for a recording. Besides, that girl who played April in Company like she was on lithium shouldn't be allowed in any recording studio!
"Oh shut up about you cant judge a show of a bootleg *the show does not change in to some strange thing because its on a dvd*"
No, but it also isn't an accurate measure of a show in any way. I thought Cry-Baby was terrible. I still don't think you have the right to be posting an opinion when you've only seen a crappy DVD.
Idiot.
More bad reviews for CRY-BABY on ATC!

I personally feel sorry for the show..I wonder how long its would last?

I thought the actress playing April in Company was one of the best in the cast. I'm sorry this show is doing so poorly.
for those without an access...
The real reason "Hairspray" worked so well was 1/ the audience loved Tracy from the first moment, 2/ the audience loved Edna from the first moment, 3/ the audience cared about how things were going to turn out for Tracy and Edna.
"Cry-Baby" gives you no one to care for, or root for. As corny as it seems, EVERY story needs someone for whom the audience can cheer. Here we have a limply drawn "good girl" and a "bad boy" so sketchy he makes Danny in "Grease" seem like Hamlet.

Yeah - a big colorful waste of money. Too bad, because it's got a great cast.
But really, it just seemed to be a HAIRSPRAY wanna be. Not to mention GREASE, FOREVER PLAID and ALL SHOOK UP.

But as you note, they are separate shows, just as they were separate movies. In interviews, the director and actors from 'Cry-Baby' have made it clear that they're not trying to duplicate 'Hairspray' and are going for a different vibe. But when the reviews come out, I bet you'll be hard-pressed to find a critic who doesn't compare them.
'Cry-Baby' is in a no-win situation. If Jack O'Brien and Jerry Mitchell had been signed to 'Cry-Baby,' they'd be accused to re-creating 'Hairspray.' And even with different creative people, the show is still accused of that.

As it is, there's not one standout tune in the score, and not one new idea in the book. I agree that the source material is awfully thin; I remember mostly the lengths Waters went to, plotwise, to get Depp in his underwear for a stretch of the picture.

Anybody know how old Elizabeth Stanley is? She's playing 16 but I'm thinking she's really about 30. Just curious... not trashing 'cause I liked the show *ducks for cover*
per BWW ..she is 20 something yrs old.

Lol - Yeah.. right.. like 29! Me too
Sorry - I'm being unnecessarily mean. She does have a great singing voice & I'd love to hear her on a cast recording of this show.

I'm obviously in the minority, but I would definitely love a recording. Yes the score has some pretty bad songs, but I liked more songs than I didn't. The cast was also amazing, vocally, both times I saw it and documenting that would be great.
I never really heard anyone commented on James Snyder's voice... how was it?
They said that he is uncharismatic..but how about vocally? acting wise?

His voice is alright. He's a good singer, but nothing special.

His acting leaves much to be desired and he is just generally miscast, but in my opinion, I think he has a great voice.
his voice is fine but he didn't excite me or bring anything special, to the character.
very very flat.
Hairspray was also so well constructed when it previewed in Seattle. They changed one song and that was it.
Cry Baby would need years and years of workshops to be halfway enjoyable. It's a pitty, I think the film is ripe for a musical.

Cry-Baby is getting a recording, as of today.
Announcement coming soon.

a recording is a waste, considering how bland the score is.
but i wanted to chime in and agree that while Elizabeth Stanleys acting is pretty boring, her voice (at tonights performance at least) was out of this world.

it would be a shame if this wasnt recorded, since every other musical this season has been (and I do include the downloadable Glory Days tracks).....the score isnt the best of the season, but there certainly are several entertaining numbers....I hope we hear some word soon
Bryan will be happy! Maybe now he'll STFU!

I don't know why but I would probably buy it. I have no idea what is possessing me to say this, but in all honesty I would
I'll certainly get it, if only because of the song Screw Loose!
