Does anyone have advice on whether I should see Hairspray or Crybaby? I know Crybaby has only started previews but judging from press coverage etc does anyone have an opinion on what it will be like or what the music will be like? I visited NY last year and regretted not seeing Hairspray but I have always loved the Crybaby movie and am coming back in May. I only have a couple of spare nights so probably can't see both. Thoughts?
Crybaby.
If I could see it, I would. Then again, I would see ANY show over Hairspray.
The word isn't out on Crybaby yet, but NOTHING can top HAIRSPRAY !!!
I would see Hairspray this time and Cry Baby in May. Have fun!
See Cry Baby in May. Seeing a show early on its run doesn't always prove smart.
GO SEE HAIRSPRAY!

Hairspray is a great show - high energy, lots of laughs, great music! Crybaby is still young - it hasn't even officially opened yet, has it? I'd see Hairspray and wait for Crybaby.

re "NOTHING can top HAIRSPRAY!!!".
I kind of think there is some truth to that too.

Hairspray all the way!!!!!! no doubt in my mind, best show in the whole wide world a MILLION times BETTER than the movie that came out.. and UHHH just an AMAZING show!!
Have not seen Cry-Baby the musical (obviously) or the movie. But I can tell you that Hairspray is a lot of fun!
would do hairspray now and cry-baby in may and this is why:
the cast is new and it always takes a little while for them to REALLY know their characters and really get into it, let them get into the swing ofthings :)
I'd see Cry Baby. I saw it in La Jolla.. loved it!! go see it.. Hairspray will be there in May..
Christina, even in the worst case senario, Cry-Baby will also be there in May LOL
Hairspray...see cry baby in may
Where do you live? If you live outside NY, you can always catch Hairspray on tour. I wouldn't say Cry Baby's chances of ever going on tour are very high so definitely go see Cry Baby and wait to see Hairspray when it passes through your town.
After seeing Cry-Baby last night, (and Hairspray 18x), I left the show wondering what Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman would have come up with.
Thanks everyone for your advice. I should have made myself clearer, I am actually from Sydney in Australia and am only going to be in NY in May. I visited NY last year which is when I missed Hairspray. My new dilemma with Cry Baby is that I can only seem to get side viewing second row and not sure if I should settle with this or take center seating Row Q - anyone familiar with the theatre? Thanks.
Hairspray. If you regret not seeing it last year, why not take the chance to see it now?
see cry-baby bc it will be Original Broadway Cast! You DO NOT want to miss Alli Mauzy, she is FANTASTIC
