Is McGillin aiming to star in Phantom 2: Electric Boogaloo? Because he'd be too old (I'm going by the casting notice, and not common sense).
Speaking of the sequel, wasn't Lord Andy supposed to make the Big Announcement today?

Oh, put a lid on the bickering about Howard. Wish him well on his departure and whereever he's heading. All, I know is that audiences are in for a wonderful treat with John Cudia!
His Phantom is remarkable, fresh, energetic and powerful... very much like a young Kevin Gray. Folks will not be dissapointed.

Posted: 5/7/09 at 10:12pmHoward McGillin was a fantastic Phantom, however it will be nice to see some new blood in there.

Best to McGillin.
Thrilled about John Cudia -- he's my favourite Phantom! He'll do awesome (again) on Broadway! (Actually saw him and Marni Raab on the tour 2 years ago I believe!)
I must say though -- Phantom could always use "fresh blood"...I always thought that was a problem with Beauty and the Beast. It wasn't that I didn't like Steve Blanchard, but when someone does the role for years and years, it just leaves you wanting to see someone else unfortunately.
Best to Cudia!

How it is fresh if he's performed it 2000+ plus times?
re: Cudia to Succeed McGillin on July 27#10
Posted: 5/8/09 at 1:15amI am happy for him. I may have to return to Phantom to see this!

I like the headline on the front page:
"Cudia is New 'Man Behind the Mask' in 'PHANTOM' 7/37"
Since when was there a July 37th? :-P

caitlinette, why don't you ask him yourself? http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/John-Cudia/12169693470?ref=ts
He'll be more than willing to answer any of your questions.

Even though he's played the role for almost 10 years, I am sad to see McGillin leave, as he is my personal favourite Phantom, with one of the most beautiful voices that I have ever heard. Of course, I supppose that it's time for someone else to slip on the mask, but I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
EDIT: Also, congratulations on a world record-setting run!

While I can't speak for the Broadway Co. I can tell you that the last time POTO was in Philly it was as fresh as the first season thanks to John, Marni and a remarkable touring co.
I've been around this show since 1992 and seen a lot of casts. The mask will be well worn by Cudia and the crowd will like him.

Posted: 5/8/09 at 5:29pmCudia is excellent. I saw him here in Denver in January. He actually brought tears to my eyes at the end. Everyone I talked to here raved about him and I bet he keeps each performance fresh.
re: Cudia to Succeed McGillin on July 27#21
Posted: 5/8/09 at 7:37pmI saw John Cudia on tour in '05, New York's definitely in for a fantastic Phantom.
re: Cudia to Succeed McGillin on July 27#22
Posted: 5/8/09 at 8:11pmHoward is a wonderful Phantom, even after years and years in the role he was great when I saw him January of 2008, and the first time I saw him in January 2007.
