Cutting in rush lines

Ever since yesterday I've been wondering about an ettique question since bringing up Shakespeare in the Park lines and friends being late. What is the proper ettique for two people wanting to get 4 tickets together but can not arrive at the park at the same time. Let's say my friend IS a punctual person but her train is delayed. Is it rude for me to hold a place in line for her until she arrives? If so, for how long until it becomes unfair and rude? Or should I just have to suck it up, stand to the side and just join the end when she arrives? Just hypothetical ethical questions.

If you want to get your tickets together with your friends, the only thing that is fair to others waiting in line is for all of the friends to get in line at the spot where the latest friend arrives.

There was a bit of a situation today at One Man Two Guvnors. I arrived at about 9 am and got on line about 15 minutes later a guy joined the end of the line then 5 minutes later a girl joined him and I thought ok not a big deal because she had obviously stopped for coffe. Fast forward to about 9:45 there are maybe 25-30 people behind theses 2 now and 2 more friends join them. The guy directly behind them asked if they were getting tickets too and they said yes and he told them they needed to go to the back of the line because others had been waiting in line. The line cutting group started arguing that the first guy had been there "holding spots" for them and they came all they way from Brooklyn and could not have gotten there earlier, also the guy that arrived first told the guy behind him to relax they is going to be enough tickets for everyone (I doubted that very much)
So the guy that was asking them to go to the back of the line said well if that's the case then your friends won't mind going to the back (extremely valid point) they argued for a few minutes then he just went to the box office and was told to point them out when they got to the window. I know for a FACT that there were not enough tickets for everyone on line because the couple in front of me were turned away for the manitnee. I don't know if the group got tickets or not but I just don't understand how people think its ok to do stuff Ike that, especially since the show in question is a one ticket per person rush. (so its not as if the original 2 people could have purchased 4 tickets anyway)
I just don't understand the rudeness of people.

It stinks when people who do this screw other people out of tickets; however, I can understand why the box office may be hesitant to take action if one doesn't have proof of another person cutting the rush line.

Couldn't edit my message, but wanted to add that one time I was waiting in line for Jersey Boys SRO, and there was a box office staff member keeping an eye on the line and waiting with the patrons in the line. She allowed people to take 10-15 minute breaks if they needed to go to the bathroom, etc.

It's unfortunate that people can be so dishonest that we have to resort to babysitters.

I agree millie. They are doing us a great favor by even offering us these tickets for these prices! I would just hope that everyone could be mature adults and do what is fair. However that's not always the case!

The lady at Jersey Boys is great. Stern but not unfriendly. I think her name is Nancy?

Chris, Jared and Emma (who call lotto) and Sean (one of the security guys) are pretty great about watching for cheaters in the BoM line as well.
