HELL’S KITCHEN To Close - Feb 22, 2026
 Jan 15 2026, 11:40:04 AM

I've heard The Devil Wears Prada is swooping in.

Why are audiences so poorly behaved these days?
 Dec 15 2025, 03:47:30 PM

A couple of weeks ago at This World of Tomorrow a couple in front of my talked for the first 10-15 minutes pretty much non-stop. I politely leaned down and asked if the could not talk and they did. But then the lady next to me checked her phone every 2 minutes for the next 15 minutes until during a scene change I said "can you please put your phone away" and she said FULL VOICE "I ONLY HAVE CHECKED IT A FEW TIMES!" and I said "please put it away" in a stronger to

Jamie Lloyd on Evita coming to Broadway "trying to find a theatre with a balcony"

I always wish producers could petition the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing to include productions in alternative spaces as broadway/Tony-Eligible. I don't have any spaces in mind with a balcony but it would certainly widen the net in the search. I get they want the awards and attention and "on broadway!&

ART - Week-Long Break?
 Sep 17 2025, 04:25:14 PM

I know actors and crew (union members) would have to be paid for the dark week but I'm guessing production doesn't have to pay for front of house and other non union backstage people for the week?

Cabaret Lawsuit bigger picture questions
 Sep 12 2025, 04:37:48 PM

I might be misremembering but I remember a lot of Rudin's investors were upset that even though the show was basically 100% sold out from the start he was still buying $100k full page NYT ads for "Hello, Dolly." Even though they recouped it still seemed odd they couldn't have actually profited more vs just being made whole.

Breaking character… acceptable?
 Sep 11 2025, 05:10:46 PM

I feel like a lot of examples are done to help get the audience on their side. They want the audience to walk out with a "you know when I saw it..." story and since the majority of audiences aren't people in these boards who see a lot they likely won't ever compare notes. Spelling Bee had a bit where they made up words for the last speller and no matter what they said they'd say it was right, they'd sit back down only to be called up again to be given another word th

At the last performance of the recent Hello Dolly! revival back in 2018, Gavin Creel broke character during his song "It only takes a moment" and it was endearing. Audience was fine with it.

I love when he realized he was saying the line "today I'm out of a job." It was very sweet and funny.

He also replaced in Sh*t. Meet. Fan when Billy Magnussen had to drop out. So I can see it as both an Ellis link as well as possibly a NPH suggestion.

Thoroughly Modern Millie
 Aug 22 2025, 12:39:38 PM

I can't confirm first hand but Hannah Solow had an instagram story the other day saying something like hearing Micaela Diamond sing "Gimme Gimme" was amazing so I assume Micaela was Millie and Hannah was either Mrs Meers or Miss Flannery. Anna Zavelson could be Millie or Dorothy but that would mean another character sings Gimme Gimme.

I've always thought you could easily swap Meer's disguise to be anything over the top and kooky such as a Swedish Che

How Bad Will the Kennedy Center Honors Be
 Aug 13 2025, 11:17:08 AM

Crawford would be chosen because Trumps is OBSESSED with Phantom of the Opera. He saw it many, many, many times and often (pre political career) would fly cast members to Mar-a-Lago for events. Howard McGillian has a story (I think you can look it up on Seth Rudetsky's Obsessed) about being flown down and Trump tells the audience "they vote on these things and this guy was voted the very best Phantom and he's gonna come out and sing all the songs" and Howard is so confused a

Erivo will lead one-woman DRACULA in West End from DORIAN GRAY team
 May 13 2025, 12:29:03 PM

When I saw Dorian Gray I felt Sarah Snook was obviously doing remarkable work (and I almost never like 1 person plays 20 parts shows) but felt "the show" was watching a TikTok video for two hours and drove me crazy. Trying not to prejudge this but this "throw a filter and just watch a screen" isn't for me. I don't understand what is essentially watching a movie in live theatre.

PIRATES! THE PENZANCE MUSICAL Previews
 Apr 17 2025, 04:56:38 PM

I got to see the first preview and overall liked it. I'm not a G&S purist but I know Pirates (the Papp version especially). I just kept wondering why there were so many lyric changes that changed nothing. I understand updating a reference (sat a gee is now sang a G...fine!) but they'd change lyrics and just rephrase them basically changing "and I put on a sweater" to "My sweater is cozy when it's on" so I just couldn't figure out the why of it all unles

Another stage door horror story with a forced kiss?!?
 Apr 11 2025, 01:49:10 PM

Social media itself is to blame as well since it only makes the parasocial relationship stronger. If you follow a performer and see what they're doing day to day, what music they like, their thoughts on tv shows, etc you feel like you know them and have a ton in common "I love coffee and The White Lotus tooooooo!" Not to mention if the performer ever innocently responds to a comment or DM it's essentially telling some of these fans they're friends/they know me and embold

I don't think it's intent is run without her though. The point of the production is her like Music Man was about Hugh and Sutton.

This can be true they plan for it to run at a certain ATP within a contracted period and break even and that's smart but producers WERE making calls pretty much the entire year to get Justin Timberlake, Seth McFarland, Jimmy

Does anyone know the run time? I can't seem to find it on the website.

Stereo... closing? General question.
 Jan 9 2025, 12:56:53 PM

I'd say their advances weren't good enough to spend the $$ on recasting, rehearsing, new promo, etc etc. It broke even and that's AMAZING for any production let alone a play with no big names that's 3 hours long.

It's also possible they can use the set and costumes on the tour and it's better to close up the slow money making on broadway vs spending another million (made up that number someone else can estimate what the set costs) on the tour's budget wh

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 1/5/25
 Jan 7 2025, 03:24:36 PM

I never said it was a flop house and that ZERO shows have ever recouped but out of the 3 shows that have played there since it reopened two closed pretty quickly and I can see the Shuberts giving them a break in the rent just to let it close its run to avoid "and another one!" Obviously this won't recoup either but at least there aren't going to be headlines about it.

I actually don't think any theatre is a flop house because we all know if a big star is in a

I have to assume Ephron and Margulies must be giving up/donating their salary and are playing to empty houses to avoid the bad press/career hit of having a play close early. Even though it's not a big expensive show there's no way they're even close to mee
