Is anyone familiar with the recording of this show? I'm just back from a New York trip (my family and I had a great time at "Chicago"! First time seeing it onstage), where I saw this recording at the Colony. I decided not to get it as I had already loaded up on other CDs, but I've been regretting it ever since. I like Christopher Plummer and I REALLY like Cyrano. Any of you who know this one, do the two together make a good combination? I see that I can get it on Amazon, so would like to know if anyone would recommend it. Thanks.

I not only have the recording, but I saw this CYRANO in previews and loved it. The song "You Have Made Me Love" stands out in my mind as being melodic and lyrical.

It deserved a better fate than it had.

I like it very much. But, I have to say the most wonderful CYRANO recording (I like) is something completely different, the one I like is a concept recording.

I wish they made a recording in English of the CYRANO musical that was done in a while back with, Bill van Dijk as Cyrano, Anne Runolfsson as Roxane, and Paul Anthony Stewart as Christian, with James Barbour and Jeff Gardner in supporting roles.

I wish they made a recording of this, I heard it was very well done, but poorly viewed.

Yes it is a shame it never got recorded.

It should prove interesting to hear Wildhorns version of it.

I've heard the Bill van Dijk early 1990s version--or all I could stand of it. It's like an opera without arias--all recitative.

As I've posted in another thread, there's a new musical version of the play, entitled "Bring Me Giants", being workshopped presently at a college in Maryland, and after seeing some of the rehearsals, I think it might be on to something. There have been numerous operas, operettas, and musicals made of the play, but none have succeeded. I think it's partly the fact that the title seems so uninvolving as a musical title. Think of it--would MY FAIR LADY have been a hit if it had been called "PYGMALION!"

I have the CD and it is worth getting. I second that "You Have Made Me Love" is a wonderful ballad, beautifully sung by Leigh Barry. Plummer is a decent singer, but an even better actor, and the recording luckily preserves much of the dialogue. Enjoy!

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Totally agree with the above posts, saw it as well and find myself listening to the CD more frequently than I thought.

Plummer took the role of Captain von Trapp as a sort of audition for the "Cyrano" producers, to convince them he could sing--then he was crushed when his singing in SOUND OF MUSIC was dubbed!

One of my favorite cast albums. Plummer if excellent and Leigh Berry is fantastic. I have both the double LP and the CD.

CYRANO is also one of my favorite plays.
