What is up with these aggressive subject lines? Can’t we just diplomatically say: passed away? I mean: dead at… it’s kinda tackless. Geez.

It sounds very neutral to me, not sentimental but certainly not "aggressive." It's what I'd expect to see in a news headline, which seems appropriate here.
