With all the talk of the show being a parody, I thought you would be interested to see the note that was posted with the casting notice (above)!

To me, that's not a signifier of the wrong direction, it just hearkens back to what George Abbott once said: "If you play it for comedy, it won't work; if you play it for real, it will."

The "send up" and "camp" will come out of playing it straight. As Gaveston said, imagine a cast of six trying to pull off a Busby Berkeley spectacle!
