Per Michael Reidel this AM "He received good reviews for his role in "La Cage" and may yet get another Tony nomination"
As many times as I have seen the show (4 whole times in total, don't even want to mention how many times Ive seen Act II) -
DAVIS WAS THE BETTER PERFORMER of the two - not that Beach is bad by any means, but Davis commanded a presence and sang the role like none before him. Im THRILLED that if he needed to be replaced that they are doing it with Mr. Goulet, who will do the role justice and more. Im so sorry to see Mr. Davis go, he was a very wonderful part of "LA CAGE AUX FOLLES" and will be missed (well by many of its fans, not necicarilly his cast mates)
THAT SAID, Davis, like Reidel said in his column, could and I believe SHOULD be the fifth and final nominee come Tony time - if politics are put aside and true performance quality are taken into consideration (marvel idea I know), the crop should look like this:
Norbert Leo Butz - DRS
John Lithgow - DRS
Tim Curry - Spamalot
David Hyde Pierce - Spamalot
Daniel Davis - La Cage

I agree with you, LaCage!

I would also agree. He was great on stage. However, Best Actor does not just mean what you do onstage. From what I hear he was a real pain for everyone to work with.
The Tony voters don't usually come to town until May. That said, he probably hasn't been judged yet...so he probably won't be eligible. It does make me sad because I saw it twice and believe he is worthy of a nom...but it's likely he won't get it now.
FOA, I can see why you would think that, but Davis WAS THAT GOOD and Im hoping enough Tony voters saw him prior to his firing to realize he deserves the 5th slot.
Oh I hope they did, too. BUT...it's not likely, unfortunately.
I want John Hickok or Danny Gurwin to get it for Featured Actor in a Musical. I prefer John Hickok but they're both amazing...mmmm
I agree completely - I just don't think it's going to happen now. I hope this doesn't hurt his future. He's such an incredibly talented actor and I always look forward to seeing his performances on stage.

If he does, it'll be a real kick in the face to the whole show...should be interesting...I dunno, in addition there is also Cheyenne Jackson, Raul Esparza, Hank Azaria, Matthew Morrison (lead???)...
I dont think he deserves to get one. When I saw him, I didnt care for his performance...everytime he had to sing something, you could see himself having a voice lesson in his head. Not to mention the absolute LACK of chemistry between them. All that said, I dont think Gary Beach needs to get one either....just an opinion
I totally agree. I loved him in this show. When I saw the show, Gary Beach was out but I loved his stand-by, Bryan Batt. Now, I don't have his performance with Beach to compare it to, but nevertheless, I thought there was great chemistry between those two.
I would love to see him win if for no other reason to hear his acceptance speech. Wonder if his fellow actors in The Frogs had any problems ?
He might find it a tad difficult getting anything for awhile. I wonder if we will ever get his side of it. My wife had a coworker who acted like this & she was an alcoholic. I hope that is not it & whatever problems he had he straightens them out.He was great In La Cage & has a great voice which we would live to hear again.
Danny Gurwin should be nominated and win for Best Naked Torso, but will not be nominated for Little Women.
