I saw him in A Soldier's Story when he was pretty much an unknown - his only major credit was the awful comedy "Carbon Copy" with George Segal. I (and everyone else in our party) pciked out Denzel as a future star.
Sadly, three of the other lead preformers in A Soldier's Story - Charles Brown, Adolph Caesar and Larry Riley - have passed away, as well as Howard Rollins, who played Brown's role in the film version.

I'm so there! Not only is this one of my FAVORITE plays, it's got one of my favorite actors now! Woohoo! Shakespeare geeks around the globe, pun intended, unite!!!
All I need to know now is who will be Cassius and who will be Antony. They need Patrick Stewart to play Caesar.

Haha I aim to please.
Glad to know my reaction didn't disappoint.... ironic, too, considering the icon I've been using lately

Denzel Washington as Brutus
Brian Stokes Mitchell as Marc Anthony
James Earl Jones as Caesar
If this were to happen, it would be the hottest selling ticket of the season.

I wonder if there's enough interest in this show for an open ended run. Will it be around by Tony time?

Damn shame Jones is tied to On Golden Pond. Oh well. I wonder if Morgan Freeman is busy then? Freeman is also overdue to return to the New York stage (the last time I saw him was playing Petruchio opposite Tracey Ullman's Kate in the "old west" production of "Taming of the Shrew" that played in the Park about 15 years ago).
Next year's Tonys already look to be quite star-studded: Denzel, Billy Crystal, Whoopi, James Earl Jones, Edie Falco, Mary-Louise Parker, John Lithgow, Christina Ricci, Jessica Lange, David Hyde-Pierce, Kathleen Turner, Phylicia Rashad, Billy Crudup, Jeff Goldblum (possibly), Natasha Richardson, Larry Fishburne, Christina Applegate, Alan Alda, etc.... Maybe the ratings will make it out of the basement for a change.

Maybe the ATW won't feel the overwhelming need to bring the Jimmy Fallons of the world into the ceremony this time.
