hahahahaha. Theya nnounced it at the Belasco. Bye Bye DRECKula.
Denzel is not new to Broadway. I saw him in a play called "Checkmates" back in 1988. It was not the greatest play but I remember him being pretty good in it.

this is the first thing he's done since... and since i was 4 when that play was on it's his first time when i'm actually of theatre going age! not to mention in such a great play... he's going to be amazing in this... i just know it

I believe he also did A Soldier's Play off-Broadway back in the 80s.
I don't particularly care for him as an actor (aside from his performances in Philadelphia and Malcolm X) or as a person (his terse remarks about homosexuality and the Bush administration reek of right-winged leanings). But, it might be interesting to see him perform live strictly because he's such a familiar face...

maybe you'll want to see how those sentiments translate into his performance of brutus? not to mention how the whole show goes over in a political time like this

Hm, previews begin in March... tix are on sale for Dracula through December 31, any chance it gets extended past Jan 1? lol. I'm not betting on it...
Margo, you are correct he did do A Soldier's Play back in 1981 and he also was in off-broadway productions of "Coriolanus" and "When The Chickens Come Home To Roost".
He is good with Shakespeare. Don't forget he was in the movie version of Much Ado About Nothing. I can't wait for this!
What? They're just assuming "Dracula" is going to be closed by then?
Ha ha, jk--actually, the fact that the show is still running just astounds me.

From Riedel's column from this past Wednesday:
"IT looks like "Dracula" may be headed for an early grave.
Word around town is that the musical, which took a beating from the critics, may shut down right after the Christmas holidays.
Last week, the show grossed a paltry $250,000 — more than $50,000 below its weekly running costs.
The show's chief backer, Dutch billionaire Joop van den Ende (nicknamed "Oops" because he's had so many flops), is said to be unwilling to keep pumping money into a show that, like its title character, has no vital signs."

That will be wonderful! I had seen "Checkmates" as well, and thought he was terrific (although I didn't care for the play much either).
I love the Belasco, and think it's a great theatre for the Bard's work.
Farewell Dracula I guess. I love Denzel. I think he is very talented.

TheaterGeek, what's your favorite movie?
Milli, love the icon. Glad to see someone admitting to appreciation of Titanic -- or its costume design, at least.
