Okay, so on Tuesday I have my singing audition for Anything Goes and I have NO IDEA what song I should do. I'm thinking of "Sun in the Morning" or "Ain't Misbehavin'" but my belt doesn't go high. Can anyone at least tell me which part to audition for? My sound clips are in my signature. I can't dance and I'm a mezzo soprano/soprano with a range from a low E (below middle C) to a high A/Bb (the ones almost two octaves above middle C). Please help me, I'm desperate!
*bump* I really need help! I want to audition for Hope Harcourt.
Listened to your link.....you could definitely audition for Hope....but you've been working on mostly alto repetoire.....that would be Reno territory...or if you dance, the part of Bonnie, who sings "Heaven Hop" or "Buddy Beware" depending on which version of Anything Goes you're doing.
That said....if you're going for Hope, choose something lyric and high. If you're thinking Reno or Bonnie...then go with "Ain't Misbehavin"..or another belting song.
Also...is this a school or community production? If it's community, Reno will probably go to an adult with a real mature belt, but the other roles could go to younger singers.
Hope that helps.
This is a camp production with people aroudn my age. I think I want to use "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered." Is that right at all?
sorry for thread jacking... but "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered"? is that from Aint Misbehavin?
to audition for which role? In my opinion...it would be good for Reno, not so good for Hope.
Do you have a real soprano song? An "Out of My Dreams" or something similar? To me, that would be a good Hope audition song.
Is "People Will Say We're in Love" good? I'm auditioning for Hope.
yes, I know the song, just don't think it's the best choice for you if you're interested in Hope.
However, the best thing you can do is be confident in your audition no matter what you sing. Sing it well and let the director decide your role!

Why not just sing what Hope sings in the show? You really can't do much better than "It's Delovely" or "All Through the Night".
If those are out of the question, something vintage, sweet and soprano-y yet playful could do nicely, like "Old Devil Moon" from Finian's Rainbow or "If I Were a Bell" from Guys and Dolls. "So In Love" from Kiss Me Kate, "Goodnight My Someone" from The Music Man, "It's Love" from Wonderful Town or "Will He Like Me" from She Loves Me might be other, more romantic options.
Maybe you're a Hope trapped in Reno's body. In that case, go for the belt. No one says you have to belt like the current crop of Broadway beltresses. Reno doesn't belt THAT high and it's a much better part.

"Bewitched....B & B" is a good choice for Hope. It's says classy young thing more than "Out of My Dreams", which is a lovely song, but Laurey is not a Hope. Hope that makes sense!
I could do "Goodnight My Someone," or maybe "Til There was You," which I happen to like better.

I'd stick with "Bewitched...". Break a leg!
I will. It's my best song out of the choices and I'm really comfortable with it.
