The new West End musical 'Desperately Seeking Susan' is to close on Dec 15th. The show opened less than a month ago at the Novello Theatre. Its the second big flop for the Novello in just 3 months as the theatre was the London home to 'The Drowsy Chaperone'.

I don't think anyone saw this one coming...
Not.
Like i said on the West End Board its always sad when a new show closes so quickly especially when it was not an awful musical it was just an average one that did not catch on.
Not gonna work without Madonna's Into the groove ! (Im just a big fan of hers)

Im a huge Madonna fan too (god bless the queen lol) and apparently Madonna was approached first about using her songs in the production over 2 years ago.....she said no lol
I never understood how a film with such iconic music can be made into a musical without the music from the film. Whether it be Desperately Seeking Susan, The Wedding Singer etc... I just don't get it. The emotional connection to these films is more than just the story.
The Wedding Singer at least kept some of the songs we loved from the film (grow old with you etc)
Susan was just an odd combination
The Blondie songs just never sat comfortably into the story line.
Comfortably....they were wedged in with a shoe horn lol
I agree .. Blondie's song does not seem to fit the MOVIE....to turn it into a musical..
It's a common knowledge that Madonna IS Susan.

Who are those actresses?
WHO CARES????????????????????????
Kelly Price and Emma Williams. both very well know in the musical theatre in London
Kelly Price was in 'Guys and Dolls', the Donmar production at the Picadilly amongst other shows such as 'Cabaret'.
Emma Williams originated Truly in 'Chitty' at the London Palladium.
Some people do care!
Not a shot in hell. Surprised it ran as long as it did actually. Songanddanceman, lol to your "wedged in with a shoehorn".
lol He wasnt joking, it was painful watching those numbers as they meant zero to the plot whatsoever. A total mess and a waste of what was a great opportunity. A very dull evening in the theatre and sat thru it TWICE!
That was fast...
Just one month exactly to the day it opened. Runs get shorter and shorter. its a long time since a show closed in previews in London.
For Jaystar
i know Madonnas album comes out in the UK in Febuary/ March with a single the week before
and a HUGE greatest hits album (3 cds and a dvd) comes out at the end of the year and then that is her contract finished with Warner and she moves over to Live Nation
She also starts touring next year wooh wooh
Mightydog
There is one two word phrase that explains why the songs from the movie aren't used: rights clearances.
The cost of using those songs is astronomical. It's much cheaper upfront to go new score and hope for a hit than pay through the nose for pop hits.
it is amazing what some people will do for a musical. Next thing there will be a musical with music from Boney M or Earth Wind and Fire....(oh wait....)
