I think some people here are being just a little over-dramatic about the strike. Yes it's an inconvenient and frustrating when you have tickets to a show that's cancelled, and yes it is dissapointing, especially when you have children who have been looking forward to it, but like others have said, there are worse things than missing a show.
And is anyone else getting a little annoyed with some of these people who act like since Broadway is dark, theatre itself is ceasing to exist in NY? There is a place called Off Broadway...

Phyllis that is just an AWFUL story- but, it made you the man (Woman?) you are today, so I'm a lil bit happy it happened. Plus, you well NEVER lose the "I had the WORST Christmas EVER!" game.
My father was a big drunk who I never actually saw sober. My mother used to buy herself christmas presents, wrap them, put them under the tree and pretend they were from my father. My father would either be MIA on christmas morning or he'd be there complaining about what we got him.
Oh. It just got sad.
Not as sad as children not being able to see the Grinch...but sad nonetheless.

JoeKev, I didn't even mention the part where I tried to leave the house but my mother took my keys and blamed me for all the tension in the household!

Oh, PalJoey, it doesn't matter what she said I did. Everything was my fault in that household.
I suddenly feel like I'm in a feeling circle.

It's a Thanksgiving miracle! I hope Mamie gets her theatre spirit back!

So NO ONE is going to say that the Nederlander's heart grew THREE sizes that day?
No since Nederlander's doesn't own the Theatre, Jujamcyn does and they are still trying to block it's opening in Court.
Saying it got the bejeevers beaten out of it in Court though would definitely put me more in the Christmas Spirit.
One tough part of reading this thread was is wasn't even Thanksgiving yet! Already we are complaining about Christmas.
Reading those sad stories about drunks and remembering my own childhood encounters with them reminds me why I wish they would stop allowing Alcohol Venders to advertise on Television.
I also miss the days when you had to go to the liquor store to get your booze. Now, it's everywhere and the problem has never gotten better only worse.
I just wish it was a lot more difficult to buy than it is right now. I am not asking for prohibition, never works but it shouldn't be so easy to screw up your kids life. It should also cost a lot more than it does.
Hopefully this family can re-schedule their trip if not, there is always two videos for sale. Both are pretty good.
Some kids didn't get Christmas Presents at all because they were stuck with Parents who really don't care at all. Some can't afford them. It is just too bad Christmas has become so commercial.
Last year, I was just laughing over all the people who thought if you called it Happy Holidays they wouldn't get presents anymore. As if Christ ever had anything to do with Christmas or what you got under the tree. We thought of becoming Jewish one year as kids because they got presents all week long! Not sure my Mother knew what Jewish meant but it wasn't going to happen and we felt gipped that year too.
Well, tkt, by reading your posts it is clear that no matter how hard it is to get your liquor you would still find a way.

I appreciate the honest and helpful postings from many of you. It has nothing to do with what I wrote, Im sure, but the kids are absolutely on cloud 9 again. It may seem like nothing to some others of you, but you dont know their stories at a young age. Im glad the theater landlord lost. After all I've read, I dont know whether to lean wih the union or the league, but I do feel strongly that the theater landlord at the Grinchs theater was being nothing but spiteful. Let people go back to work when they work out their differences and let kids see a kids show during the holidays for gods sake.

Plenty of kid's theater, with important themes, out there for the viewing.
