Munkustrap- Agree with EVERYTHING you said, except the set. I was in row P, so I got a full view of the set and I thought it was just beautiful. Such color (there's a ton of blue in it, afterall it IS the French Riviera, and the blue is so rich) such glitter and glitz. It was wonderful. I saw it last night and was just wowed by it. Not an amazing show, not a great show. But a really really REALLY good show. Easily one of the best (And some would argue THE best) musical on Broadway. IN a season of Good Vibrations, Brooklyn, and Dracula this is a breath of fresh air.
David Yazbeck's score and NOrbert Leo Butz were my two favorite things about the show. As everyone said, NOrbert's brilliant, I won't repeat them. But Yazbeck's score does something that no other score on Broadway does. He writes his music not all in one style but in many different ones. And some would complain about this but i love it because it changes with each character. It represents each character's emotions and how they are as a person. I mean think about it, how different is "Great BIg Stuff" and 'Give them What the Want"? They're different in melodies due to the difference in character. And the lyrics are just out of this world. Yazbeck has my vote for every award for Best Score, haven't seen SPAMALOT yet but i don't need to. DRS needs to win Yazbeck the Tony for which was stolen from him by Mel Brooks in THE PRODUCERS.

Posted: 2/22/05 at 4:51pmIt's not as out of control as WICKED or even AVENUE Q, but it's getting up there. I was last there on Wednesday, and there were probably about 60 or so people.

I also enjoyed the show very much. My only cavil was the TONE of the show. It took 20 minutes or half an hour for the audience to understand how they were going to enjoy the show. Yes, it was a comedy, but what kind? The opening number, with the ensemble floating in and out of the palm trees was more suited to the elegance of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC rather than the raucous comedy of this show. Gower Champion was remarked that it was the first 10 minutes of a musical that were extremely important because the audience had to be won over in that time.
The opening number really needs some buffoonery so everyone can expect the hijinks that are to follow.

How has the lottery been for the show? A friend and I are going on Saturday, and hopeing the lottery won't be stacked.
Also, does anyone know how the AVE Q lottery is? Since they're across the street from each other (although I've seen Q), might as well try for both.

Read above for your answer about DRS.
And AVENUE Q has been insane - last time I was there, there were literally 150-200 people there for only 12 tickets.
