See it if you want to see it. Who cares what other people think. Taste is opinion based.

The New York Post is very positive with three and a half out of four stars:

"...Director Michael Wilson's assured production features a wonderful ensemble cast whose seamless work feels even more lived-in than it did earlier. It's easy to believe that this loving but endlessly bickering clan would drive themselves crazy if they failed to live up to the task of the play's title.
...
While all of the performances are first-rate, special praise must be reserved for Hallie Foote, the playwright's daughter. As the greedy, pathetic Mary Jo, her repeated delivery of a single phrase in the final scene (not to be revealed here) has nearly as much impact as all the dialogue preceding it."

Why is this show closing -- why is it limited? Because of Hallie Foote? She is one elusive and sometimes demanding gal, apparently a block in the productions opportunities for many of her dad's works. With the Times review, there is no reason for this show to close after so brief a run. Baffling.

I did not enjoy the play too much. It felt like a poor man's August: Osage County to me. There were some good performances, but I felt the material was weak.

Why is this show closing -- why is it limited?

Because it's produced by Lincoln Center Theater. It's a subscriber based theatre, like Roundabout and MTC.

They may choose to extend the way they did with SOUTH PACIFIC, though, if it proves to do well at the box office, but someone on here mentioned that the Booth has already booked its next tenant after ESTATE's scheduled run is over.

I was at Saturday's matinee. It seemed like a poor man's August: Osage County to me. Are all Texan families as obnoxious as these characters? Anyway, Dividing was half the length of AOC but seemed to be twice as long. Guess which one I preferred?
