Was this workshopped anywhere, in such a way that these oppositional elements slamming into each other so jarringly, might've been identified and fixed? I just watched the curtain call, and the company looks like a musical's. It's enormous and clearly was designed to put the film on stage. Was that a solid idea? That's where the reviews will likely focus: the absence of a (necessarily reductive) theatrical prism on the same story, i.e., a slavish recreation arrives with myriad challenges. Apparently, it's not clear to most that those challenges were met.
