If Twitter could singlehandedly close The Great Comet, I can't WAIT to see what happens with this.

Twitter did not singlehandedly close Great Comet --- inept producing did.

They're probably taking the smarter course of waiting to see the total impact of the documentary and then decide whether or how to proceed. Postponing work until the Fall gives them plenty of time to assess the damage, or maybe even alter the show. This may be a little naive, but maybe Wheeldon and Nottage asked for this? They may see the documentary and decide to withdraw. There's really a no win here for anyone. Yes, its probably a huge paycheck, but if the documentary convinces enough people that he was a pedophile, there's no way the show can really work (unless you do that very honest horrible story, which the family would never allow.). If the documentary is truly damning and gets major publicity, who's going to want to invest?

I think this is their way of gracefully bowing out and shelving this quietly. I can't imagine a show this size and expense not having an out of town tryout - just saying I think it flat lined. I am curious of what happens to the London "Thriller" show that's been running for years?

Many shows over many years have opened without having a "lab".
Seems like this has stopped cause they had enough
