DREAMGIRLS.....WHO ELSE HAS SEEN IT?

Posted: 12/11/06 at 12:36pmI really enjoyed it. Of course it's Jennifer Hudson's movie, but Beyonce didn't do so bad either. She totally channels Miss Ross. Eddie Murphy is really great. He knows how to have an arc of a character. SPOILER AHEAD:::::: I will say that I didn't really like how Jamie Foxx would sometimes sing, and then sometimes not sing. I hated Cadillac Car, he starts out singing, and then doesn't. It was bad movie musical making 101 for that number. BUT I was so happy to see Loretta Devine and Hilton Battle. They were great! Too bad they couldn't get Jennifer Holiday to make a camio.

Posted: 12/11/06 at 12:55pmI'm going Friday. I don't like the Cadillac Car number on the soundtrack. It's one of my fav's in the stage version.

What are you referring to in Cadillac Car? Spoiler: If I recall correctly it goes from C.C. playing it for Jimmy and the Dreamettes in the club, then straight to the recording studio, then to the car, and then to the tv studio with the Sweethearts. I don't remember Jaime doing ANY singing in that:End Spoiler.
And Deena Jones, the song is great on stage, but the way it is done currentlt works on film-at least I thought so.

I personally LOVE the film-version's "Cadillac Car". Loved it in the film and love it on the soundtrack. It's one of those track I replay once it's over, as well as "Heavy" and the "I'm Somebody" Medley.

Wickedfan,
Thank so much. The Cadillac Car number moved so berautifully on stage. I can't wait to see what they did in the movie. The soundtrack piece sounds like it might be missing something as does the Heavy number...
I'll review Saturday!

Let me explain my issues with Cadillac Car. It was more with Step into the Bad Side. They both kinda run together. Curtis starts singing the song in the alley (very rent) and then they jump in a puddle and start collecting money, with no mouths moving. I think they should have started the whole thing with the music playing, and them not singing. And then Curtis would speak certain lines and not sing them. It's a damn musical, sing the lines that were written. I had that problem with Rent too. But overall it's a good movie. I found it interesting that Jennifer Holliday didn't like the changes to the movie. She was on the Wendy Williams show.

Posted: 12/12/06 at 5:34amSaw it three times already. Can't get enough of the soundtrack. The changes implemented work perfectly and make sense within the film's context (and this is coming from someone who is a staunch fan of the show). Will see it at least a gazillion more times in my lifetime. It has become one of my all time favortie films.

Sorry 'bout the HUGE photos! All I can locate are high-resolution versions of the photos in question. I'll try my best to keep them 'normal' sized in the future.
Howtcha-ma-gowtcha!
