I was just scrolling through twitter and saw that Lesli Margherita had mentioned plans for a recording over the summer! Has anyone else heard of any plans of this, or is it more wishful thinking on her (and my) part?
I hope this comes into fruition!!! I would be so pleased. Although I love the original cast recording, I always love a new updated recording. Especially when the show is fifty odd years old. Thank goodness. I also edited the subject to make it more clear what you're referencing.
The extended dance music as orchestrated by Jonathan Tunick alone is worth recording. Plus the cast is fantastic. So excited!! Wonder what label? Ghostlight? Masterworks?
I'd still love to get a cast album from this production and if they really are going to tour the show or license this revised version then I could see them recording an album but there wouldn't really be many other reasons to do it beyond that since the show has closed.
I'd love for this to be recorded if only to listen Lesli's "That Mister Man of Mine" over and over. Her entire performance was comedic gold.
If they saved the necessary six figures to record this, then Lord love 'em, but it seems rather pointless. The new orchestrations are about half 1/2 the size of those on the existing recording, and none of the vocal performances are improvements - why listen to Kropp when you can hear young Peters? And although Margherita was hilarious in her role, I'd have to say no one else in this production was more than serviceable.
Now, if they had recorded the 1987 Lamb's Theatre revival, I'd like to listen to that. That was a sextet of great performances, and it would be wonderful to have a recording of the original two piano and percussion charts.
