Does anyone know when DanCap in Toronto is announcing their 2008-2009 season? Any rumours of the bill yet? Does Mirvish have anything up their sleeve?

Dancap say on its website: Bob Fosses Dancin, Spring 2009
Mirvish: The Sound of Music Oct. 2008.
Also Wicked: 2010
Differant rumours about Mamma Mia and Mary Poppins seem to pop up. for Mirvish

In addition, The Wiz is rumoured for Dancap. Priscilla (Queen of the Desert) for Mirvish.
Dancap just acquired (to manage) the Panasonic Theatre, The Cannon Theatre, and Broadway Across Canada. There will be some fireworks between Mirvish & Dancap as Mirvish has a lease on the Cannon until 2016.

Wicked 2010? Like a sit down?
How does both Mirvish and DanCap owning the Cannon work? Especially since Mirvish's We Will Rock You is there right now?
What theatre is The Wiz looking to aim for?

Wicked 2010 is part of the tour, no idea why they already announced it.

The Wiz is just a rumour. But Dancap has been using The Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts, The Elgin, Winter Garden, and now possibly the Panasonic. The La Jolla revival (of which this would be) was done in the round, so who knows what they are planning to do with it.

We Will Rock You will probably run through the summer and close. (Possibly to go on tour, as was the original plan even before it opened and extended) The Mirvishes need a theatre open for their 08/09 season. The Princess will have Sound of Music, and Dirty Dancing at the Royal Alex isn't going anywhere soon.

As I understand it, Dancap has taken over the Panasonic, the Cannon, and Broadway Across Canada as MANAGER. Mirvish holds a LEASE on the Cannon through 2016. That lease had a clause that even if it was sold they would remain as the lease holder. So Mirvish won't be leaving the Cannon unless the choose too or get bought out. Dancap will manage Mirvish as the tenant.

Suppose they buy Mirvish out of his lease, Could it be possible
to have his Subscription Season at the Elgin, Wintergarden Theatre. Unless his lease is real good why would he want to pay money to lease off Dancap. Could a Buy-Out Happen.

Mirvish could use the Elgin/Wintergarden, they have in the past.

Apparently The Wiz has been postponed in San Francisco which could potentially effect a Toronto run. In related news Ha'Penny Bridge, a new Irish musical, playing the Princess in May, is taking The Wiz' spot in San Francisco and aiming for Broadway.

I heard that THE WIZ was postponed in San Fransisco to allow time for it in Toronto. But, I might have gotten that information confused with something else.

I was hopeing that the producers of Wicked would consider a sit down in Toronto, but with sound of music coming, it would tie up their 2 biggest downtown theatres. But atleast it would give me an excuse to go to Toronto again.

Maybe there is a problem with the lease. I cant see they two wanting to share $$$. When you buy a building things start to happen. Old deal`s change. A good lawyer can do lots.Maybe something in the fineprint would give complete control to Dancap or Mirvish.

The Princess is where The Sound of Music will be, and that's this year in 2008. I can't imagine it would stay until 2010 anyways. Wicked is coming back to The Canon in 2010, so The Sound of Music being here has nothing to do with Wicked.

Wicked in 2010 is supposed to be a sit-down, as well. They're going to try. Updated On: 3/21/08 at 04:40 PM
