Posted: 8/15/03 at 5:51pmThe "book" to a show refers to both the spoken dialogue (not the lyrics) and (in the cases of Falsettos, Once on This Island, etc) the story of the show. Often a director and or lyricist of a sung through show will get credit for the "book" when they have helped shape it into a full piece.
