La Rues other costumes, owned by Annie Galbraith, will go on sale at an auction at Brick Lane Music Hall, March 12th, where he performed many, many times.
The sale will include pantomime costumes, a collection of costumes worn in the West End show 'Hello, Dolly!' and gowns worn for music hall and cabaret performances.
Viewing is from 10am.
The sale starts at midday.
Danny La Rue died at the age of 81 in June 2009.

Is there a permanent theatrical museum at the V & A?

??? kind of. They took a lot of the stuff there when the Theatre Museum closed in Covent Garden a few years back.
90% of what they have is in storage and will probably wont be seen again until another self contained property like the original comes along.
A new Theatre Museum was going to be built in Blackpool but that fell thru at the same time as the town lost its bid for the big casino make over.

Having know Danny for the last 20 odd years I was given my little keepsake by Annie last year as I couldn't make the funeral.
I know for a fact that the bigger, more famous ones were bought by one guy last year.

He had a fabulous Dietrich costume from the 70s that cost a fortune, more than any other. He used it almost every show he did. He would never, however, take it abroad with him incase it got lost! Wise man was Dan. Bless his heart.

I've been to the theatre section of the V&A and it's good but nowhere near as great as the Theatre Museum, I guess the V&A simply doesn't have the space to showcase the whole collection without compromising other sections of the museum.

A theatre museum in Blackpool sounds almost redundant.

A purpose built theatre museum in Blackpool might give the crumby place a bit of class and another reason to visit.

I'm sure it could be funded independently of the casino project if it were wanted.

Back to Danny's frocks - it's a shame we have to wait for him to die before we know the kind of money he invested in his shows. He always put the money on show, but even I am shocked at the price he paid, when he paid it.

Oh a true showman if ever there was one.

He had zero in the bank when he died, Annie is using this money for the, so far unpaid for, funeral. DON'T listen to the likes of Ms Windsor and her 'dear old Dan' stories. He asked her for a few pounds to stave of bailiffs about 8 years ago and she blanked him. Her on 300,000 a year. He who gave her two of her biggest breaks of her career.
Thats why he had to make a fool of himself in the last few pantos he did.
His words, not mine.

Her work, especially in the theatre over the years has been nothing short of stella and she deserves the star status she has built with the public-they adore her-but as a person she STOP!!!!!!!

I heard elsewhere that Ms Windsor was less than genuine in her grief.

Whatever panto he appeared in, he was always the fooler not he fool.

I last saw him in panto in Halifax a few years ago, he was head and shoulders above everyone else.
