re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

I saw her - her voice was fine and she was funny enough, but she just lacked...something. I can tell Sara's much better just from the CD.

re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

Darlene Wilson is quite pretty, but I'd say Sara Ramirez is probably hotter (I wouldn't know, I'm a straight female). Actually, I was at a high school theater awards ceremony, and Darlene Wilson was a presenter. She was funnier/had more stage presence there than she did in Spamalot.

She's a good singer for a dancer.

"Black woman-ish"

Never heard that before....
But, for future reference, one cannot put a color to a voice. So, does Audra McDonald sound "white woman-ish"?

The correct term would be,

Does she have "Soul"? Or...Does she have as much "Soul" as Sara Ramirez?
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

I thought Darlene was absolutely terrible. She made me totally dislike the show. She was the one performer on that stage who was definitely not on par with the others.

I agree with the other posts. I didn't like her at all. She was definitely missing something, I guess the something that makes Sara so great. Darlene was not on par at all with the rest of the performers.

Whenever I hear "Find Your Grail", I get chills and I break into hysterical fits of laughter. And I can't help but wonder how Shoshana Bean would sound as the Lady of the Lake...

Joshua488, that's interesting casting...and I'd love to see/hear Shoshana as the Lady of the Lake.

re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

No offense to Darlene, but doesn't the Lady of the Lake have to be not only a diva, but beautiful and sexy? I'm sorry but Darlene does not fit that

Karen Olivo. I really think she could do something interesting with it. Or Orfeh. Shoshana would be great too.

Any other ideas?

She's pretty, but not hot. And doesn't, um, fill the dress out like Sara.

She has no comic timing and, the night I saw it, spent more time searching for the right notes than hitting them.

re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

I assume Darlene is the regular understudy I saw in previews? If so, the problem with her was that you could really see how much she was trying; the comedy didn't seem to flow naturally with her.

Of course, to be fair, she'd probably had many less rehearsals than Ramirez, who's honed it by now.

re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

Darlene isn't in the show anymore, Rosina M. Hill is the new understudy. Her acting was terrific, she is beautiful, and her comedic timing was wonderful, but, at the performance that I saw, her singing left something to be desired. She had a very pretty voice but she wasn't very powerful.

LittleRed, were you at the Helen Hayes awards? I was there too. My best friend was the one that Darlene gave the award to.

re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

ElphabaRose: really? Because when I saw Rosena M. Hill as The Lady of The Lake I thought just the opposite: her voice was absolutely amazing (her ending for Find Your Grail blew me away!!! SO MUCH better than Sara's on the cd!) but her acting wasn't that brilliant and she could have been funnier and done more with the material she had.

I saw her Aug 4th and according to what I've heard she hadn't been in the cast very long so maybe she was still trying to find her own way to play the part.

re: Darlene Wilson as Lady of the Lake

Sant, how funny, I saw her August third, so maybe you're right about her trying to find herself in the part. She might have been focusing on different things each night which explains why our experiences were so different.
