In general, do people really think leaving a show at intermission is bad form? I agree that leaving DURING a show (excepting emergencies) is exceedingly rude. But leaving without distracting anyone--what's the problem? I admit that while I had never left a show at intermission before about a year ago, I've recently discovered that it can be an enormous relief to give up rather than sit through something truly terrible. Besides which, I'd certainly rather sit behind an empty seat than see someone checking their watch.

I ALSO confess that I disliked this production of Born Yesterday quite a bit in spite of Arianda's brilliant turn. In fact, she's probably the only reason I didn't leave myself.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with walking out of a show at intermission - the audience owes the production (writer, director, actors, designers, stage crew) nothing (except the price of the ticket, if you're paying). If you aren't enjoying it, leave and find something you will enjoy. Why torture yourself?
