Posted: 3/18/11 at 1:51pmIs anyone having any trouble hearing the actors? I've been told by friends who've seen it that they aren't as audible as they should be.

Ben Brantley had trouble.
With hearing the actors, that is.

Posted: 3/18/11 at 2:14pmI had trouble early on. I felt like I had to really activate my head to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Posted: 3/18/11 at 2:16pmAs I said in my comments, I had no trouble hearing any of the actors from the tenth row of the orchestra. Some delivery, however, was unintelligible.

Of course, the NY critics gave it their knee-jerk Stoppard rave.
Can we please, please, PLEASE get some new critics?

The reviews are hardly across-the-board raves. Have you seen the production yet? I'd say Brantley's notice--with the exceptions of Powley and Riley, whom I didn't like--is fairly spot-on.

I think what Borstal is saying is that all the NY reviewers qualify their mixed reviews of the production by still including raves for Stoppard... though I do find it a funny complaint, as Stoppard is nearly universally considered one of our greatest living playwrights in critical circles, and the NY theater illuminati is certainly not alone in that.
If you don't like Stoppard, that's cool. I have a lot of minority opinions, too. But I don't go around bitching and taking to task the majority as if they were somehow being dishonest or doing it to be cool or included.
