I don't think that Day-Lewis looks too old for the role at all. I was actually kind of taken aback by how attractive he was during this year's award season.

Initially, I thought Lewis was an odd choice, but if anyone can make it work, he will. He is a dedicated craftsman. He will become Guido Contini,

Prefer Downey, but it might be nice to see Day Lewis lighten up for once. He did a terrible movie called STARS AND BARS in the late eighties where he was light and comic and was quite good.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Much of this film's casting irks me, especially Kidman and Dench. But Downey would be a great great choice. He could play the Contini arrogance/confusion so well.

Day Lewis is excellent as Cecil Vyse in A ROOM WITH A VIEW, probably his lightest performance to date.

I was wondering what he was going to do to follow BLOOD, hoping he'd find a comedy or something worthy. NINE most definitely isn't it. God in heaven, why why why?

>chokes down power vomit at the idea of Day Lewis in NINE<

Day-Lewis is one of, if not THE greatest actor of our time. I can't imagine him NOT pulling this off.

Day Lewis is absolutely brilliant. Nothing about NINE is.

I would put so much money down that Roscoe wouldn't be slamming NINE if there were another director attached.

God, if all bets were as easy as this one.

Well, another director might be able to elevate the rather lame book and rather lame score into something interesting.

Anyway. It isn't like I'll be seeing this movie anyway. I'll just stay home and watch Fellini's 8 1/2, a real work of genius as opposed to that tired musicalization.

Dame Judi could play a treetrunk and still get herself nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar.

Dame Judi Dench can do no wrong in my eyes and will put her own special stamp on the role.

Daniel Day Lewis may be in his early fifties but he doesn't look it. He can easily pass for a 40 year old.
