Day to Succeed Morton in OSAGE COUNTY?

Word over on ATC is that Johanna Day, Tony nominated in 2001 for her turn as Claire in David Auburn's PROOF, will succeed Amy Morton as Barbara Fordham in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY in "mid to late October."

Though I was hoping for Laurie Metcalf, Day is certainly a wonderful actress who should bring a lot to the role.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Metcalf would have been great, but I was hoping for Kristen Johnston.

I was hoping for Laurie too, but oh well. Was Kirsten Johnston up for the part ray-andallthatjazz86, or was that simply wishful thinking?

oh my god I hope this happens!!

Have you all seen Day? She's really impressed me in everything I've seen her in (Proof, Peter & Jerry, Almost and Evening) She'll be wonderful in the role. A perfect match for Estelle. Still, I would have LOVED to have seen Elizabeth Marvel tackle Barbara. Now THAT really would be a battle of the titans

Mungo, I have no idea whether Johnston was up for the part or not, it was just wishful thinking on my part.

I could not agree MORE that Elizabeth Marvel would have torn up that stage as Barbara!!! I would also have loved to have seen Elizabeth Marvel and Amy Morton go head to head as the sisters in Top Girls - can you even imagine?!?

Saw this show last Saturday and it was WONDERFUL!

Good for Johanna Day if this is true.
"Everytime you step on that stage it is somebody's first Broadway show and somebody's last Broadway show. Make it count."
