THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL would also make a great movie. In my opinion, it'd probably be better than JEKYLL & HYDE.

Ok, what's the matter with the original cast?? I don't think Catherine Zeta-Jones would be perfect. She was GREAT in Chicago, but I'd rather see Linda Eder play "Lucy" and Christiane Noll play "Emma". Of course, joined by Bob Cuccioli as J&H!

I'm sick of seeing the SAME Hollywood actors over & over (Hugh Jackman this does NOT apply to).

P.S.
From the official site of Frank":

Jekyll & Hyde is headed for the big screen! The entertainment production and marketing firm The Hatchery announced that it has acquired the rights to develop the musical into a feature film, which it will do in partnership with Grand Illusions Media Partners. The movie will be produced by Oscar winner Jonathan Sanger (a producer of the upcoming feature "The Producers"), Emmy winners Dan Angel ("Door-to-door") and Margaret Loesch (co-CEO of The Hatchery), and Grand Illusions' Ed Elbert. Bruce Stein (co-CEO of The Hatchery) and Sarah Ryan Black (Senior VP of Grand Illusions) will executive produce. Leslie Bricusse will adapt his own book for the film. Further details, including the director, casting and target release date have not been determined at this time. The news was announced in Variety and has been covered by Broadway.com and Playbill.com.

Don't know if this was posted. Oh well!

When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter who plays who in the film, cause its ****!!!!
Leslie Bricusse is one of the worst lyricists working and some of J & H lyrics are truly cringe worthy, bad idea for a movie, bad musical, generally BAD!!!

I guess that is why he is in the songwriters hall of fame. What one person considers crap vs art is subjective. You do not like J/H & I did not like Rent. It is all a matter of opinion

I would like to see Banderas as J/H & Catherine Zeta Jones as Lucy Imagine him doing TITH & Confrontation & her doing BOTM

His voice cracking all over the place in "TITM" would also be hysterical!

Antonio - Ew.

Catherine - She's already been used in CHICAGO.

Therefore, Anthony Warlow and Linda Eder are the ONLY options.

I am SO excited for this.

I LOVE, LOVE LOVE this musical, and honestly, I'm going to trust the casting directors to do this correctly. I just hope that they really, really cast a good person to play Jekyll/Hyde, because as much as I loved POTO the movie, a non-singer like Gerry Butler just didn't cut it for me.

But, I do hope that some of the original cast comes back. (especially linda) I think that casting originators of roles has been working lately (like with RENT and the Producers)

I have to defend my opinion, some early Bricusse lyrics are very funny and very witty, but jekyll and hyde, facade is good, really good but everything else is so predictable. 'A New Life' has some of the worst rhymes ever, " A new part, start, heart". Any self respecting lyricist would have never have thrown that together. The fact that i saw a truly bad national tour of the show in the uk and have only seen the david hasselhoff monstrosity doesn't help. The national tour was so bad i've felt a little cheated by J & H ever since, i just wanted to vent my anger. I still think Leslie Bricusse needs to get some sort of spark back though. I think i'm done moaning now, and on reflection any movie musical is a good thing, i think.

If I had the oportunity to see Anthony Warlow at my local cineplex, I would probably die. Either from sheer excitement or because my family and friends would kill me so that I'd stop obsessing over it. Because I Love. That. Man. I'd go see him in a film version of Cats, that's how much I love him.

Not as good as a movie musical probably, but there is a DVD ( Region4 - which you can play if you have a multi-region player) of an opera "FLEIDERMAUS" with Anthony Warlow ( who is a trained opera singer) in the lead. It is done by the Australian Opera House in English and the treatment is contemporary ( although it seems like something from early 20th century). It is a comedy and I enjoyed watching it with Anthony.

I think it may still be available on some Aussie sites. I got mine online from HMV-Australia.

In case you are interested, Kitzarina.

I'm only hoping that they leave the musical numbers for the night club, and characters don't start suddenly breaking into song, out of nowhere.. this just doesn't work with modern movie musicals - I would start laughing if Mr. Hyde suddenly starts singing.

To be honest, I think that, at least for our times, very few musicals are good ideas to be taken to the screen - it takes a lot of talent to recognize the difference between art forms - J&H : The Musical on the big screen sounds like a long long shot to me.

well, the only version i've seen has been the dvd one, and that wasn't the best.

but, i know that any version besides the hasselhoff one would be tons better, but, hopefully the movie version will have a much, much more sensual and sexy "dangerous game" scene. because that is one of my favorite songs, and the dvd did NOT give it justice. at all.

I did know about that, but haven't been able to get my hands on it yet. Thank you though :) I'm still working my way through buying his solo CDs. 3 down, 2 to go!

Also...if they put in "Good and Evil," I WILL walk out of the movie.

Since when did rhyming become bad. A New Life is one of the best written songs in the show!

As much as I would like to see Broadway caliber performers in the roles, the fact of the matter is, they are going to cast either celebrities or young, beautiful people (vocally talented or not). We've already seen the latter happen with Phantom.
