Dear World

This past week I saw the old musical Dear World which flopped on Broadway with Angela Landsbury. It was staged regionally at the Bristol Riverside Theatre in Pennsylvania. What a charming show! Even though there was no Angela in it, I felt the casting was perfect. Jerry Herman added a few songs to this production, and even with the silly plot I was totally absorbed by the characters. It was a staging of The Madwoman of Challot, and I felt it was quite applicable to todays state of affairs. The music was quite enjoyable, typical Jerry Herman, and I ran right out to buy the CD which I've enjoyed since. Interesting show, I'd love to see it reach New York.

re: Dear World

Jerry Herman is constantly adding and changing this score. The version licensed by Tams-Witmark has two songs that are not on the cast recording. I don't know if they were cut from the Broadway version, added later, or just weren't included on the album for time reasons.

LANSBURY, DAMMIT, LANSBURY!
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

re: Dear World

i didn't see the show on B'way but read the script and (of course) heard the album- Many have speculated that it wasn't a bad show, just a bit anti-climactic for those who were expecting "Mame II."

I love the score. Kiss Him Now and The Tea Part trio are fantastic.

I love the score also. Tea Party is so much fun, and I especially enjoy "I've Never Said I Love You".

re: Dear World

The show had some solid moments, but really only soared in the Tea Party sequence. Fortunately it was in the second act, and since I'm around the corner from its Broadway home, I often second-acted.

The show also had some of Herman's worst lyrics. I still cringe at "....take the bandages off, Dear World
