Ok, I just bought the CD today and all I can say is.....wow. It is.....very different!
I just wanted to know who saw this while it was playing off-broadway? and was it a flop?
Thanks!

Haha! My friend gave me this cd before I came home for the summer and it is HIlarious! I didn't see it, but I can't imagine how it was staged.
It's awkward when my iTunes is on shuffle and a track from this album comes on. Especially the last track. Oy.

Posted: 8/3/06 at 11:56pmIt was one of those shows which was called a flop by everyone who didn't see it. The audiences loved it! It was an evening of pure fun and laughs-entertaining, but I wouldn't call it haute theater.

Posted: 8/4/06 at 12:06amI saw "Debbie" Off-Broadway, when it was one of the few shows to perform on Monday nights. Unfortunately, Sherie Renee Scott had played her final performance the night before, and she was the main reason I was interested in seeing the show. Sherie's understudy was playing the title role, and was okay, The show was moderately amusing, though it was a disappointment to see a New York production with no live accompaniment: the actors sang to a recorded orchestral track. The theatre itself, befitting the nature of the show, was pretty tacky, and 'way off the beaten track. I later read that the hotel which housed the theatre was where the survivors from the Titanic were put up when they reached New York.

Posted: 8/4/06 at 12:10amThe Riverview Hotel was indeed where the Titanic survivors were brought. The theatre was created inside the hotel for the production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. There couldn't have been a more suitable space for that show. Those who saw it know exactly what I mean. Following that, were a handful of other shows (Tick Tick Boom and Debbie among them). The Jane St. Theatre as it was called, has been dark for years. I understand it's still available for use.

Jane St. is dark!
Thats terrible, all those great shows played in it and now it's collecting dust? I'd love to perform in Jane St.
I've heard a good amount of the cast recording, not the whole entire thing, I've also read the libretto. It's weird cuz the show only has about five or six actually songs in it. The cast recording is basically 35 tracks of dialogue, 5 songs, and karaoke :)

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl
"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

Posted: 8/4/06 at 2:43amI bought this cast recording because I am a big fan of Sherie Rene Scott. It is one of the most hilarious things I have ever heard. Sherie is fantatic, showing shades of what was to come in DRS. I especially love Where I Need To Go. I wish to god I had seen this show when Sherie was in it Off-Broadway!
