So what are your memorable moments with the songs of Deborah Gibson?

I feel nostalgic about the late 80's and early 90's when I hear her songs.

(Actually...this double posted...so I rescued it by changing the content :P)

I first saw her on concert back in 1991 and have always loved her since then.

ok, so this is a 'joke" thread, right?! Really! Have seen her, been there, done that, on more than one occasion,and she is so bad it hurts! I wish I could say anything good, but her dancing, well,it does not exist, her voice, hmmmm, ego!!! it is there!

I saw her in Les Mis back in 1992 (she had gone to my high school) but I don't really remember anything specific about her performance.

I have her recording of B'way songs. Not so great. Bought it for a dollar. No wait, someone gave it to me because they didn't like it.

To be honest, I quite like the recording of her "On My Own" that I have. It's not BRILLIANT, but it's among my more favored renditions of the song.

I saw her as Sandy in 'Grease' in London in the early 90's and thought she was great. One thing I have noticed about her that I like is how she embraces her past. She's not afraid to bust out 'Lost in Your Eyes' or discuss how cheesy the 80's were. She's usually the first one to point out how silly things were (i.e. her wardrobe) when she was a chart topper (Sometimes I wish Michelle Pfeiffer would just talk about 'Grease 2' and just have a laugh! It's OK to have made silly mistakes!). I like her.

People can hate on her all they want, but the girl has talent. How many Broadway shows has she done? She has credits.. you can not rewrite history because you think she is a joke. She is in on the joke, so it is a non-issue to her.

I wish she had played the female lead in WEDDING SINGER. She has the awkward charm that was lacking... too bad the tour is going out non-equity. It would have been brilliant to have her on the tour.

Does she even have enough hits to justify an entire musical or will they be alot of her b-sides as fillers?

Maybe they should do a Debbie vs Tiffany musical. I'd so pay to see that!

(Also, I thought "Coloured Lights" was torture to listen to - even though I didn't terribly mind her version of 'Maybe this Time').

I got to work on her Red Hot Broadway show about a year ago.

I never bothered to ask for an autograph (I think I was just too shy), but I remember she sang "All That Jazz", "Maybe This Time" and some song from Grease, but the name of it escapes my mind at the moment. It was a fairly good show - even though I didn't do much except assist the main wardrobe supervisor.

PM, please tell me more about the Red Hot Broadway show. Was this something Deb cooked up, or was she a hired performer?

I've seen her in three different shows--Funny Girl, Cinderella, and Joseph...Dreamcoat--and the only one I thought she was any good in was Joseph. I give her props for attempting a role as huge as Fanny Brice, but she just does not have the powerhouse personality and voice required for that role, God love her.

I think she has talent and can be quite charming in the right role....but more often than not, she chooses projects that aren't quite appropriate for her.

I think I was the only one in my school who wasn't totally nuts about her during her teen pop idol days. I tried to like her, but I couldn't stand her.

The only time I've seen her live was in the recent Broadway For Medicine benefit. While I wouldn't say she was bad, she was one of the only low points in the show for me.

I was a fan back in the day so when I heard her voice in Les Mis, I kept thinking she was going to break into a "Whoah-oh / whoah-oh-oh!" at least once. I thought her performance was fine. The role doesn't really command an operatic voice, so I always thought that it basically could be played by any female pop singer - given that they do have some singing talent, mind you! I thought Debbie did fine, and it was nice to see that she fulfilled her dream when she finally got the role - she had said in interviews that she auditioned for Eponine before she was a pop star and was turned down.

I really liked some of her songs back in her prime. When she gave Broadway a try, I couldn't embrace it. She's got this little lisp that would drive me insane....I distinctly remember cringing when she performed "Home" from BATB on The View many years ago. Terrible, but oh so fun to make fun of.
