So are they done issuing their catalogue on cd? I had read they were releasing Baker Street in the Fall (so, now), but plans seem to have been halted.
Anyone have any info?
BAKER STREET is supposed to be released in January, 2006. January 31st, to be exact.
I've heard the rumors about Decca Broadway discontinueing remasters from old shows. If they don't get around to doing DON'T BOTHER ME, I CAN'T COPE I'll be VERY angry!!!!!!!
Grrrrrr. This angers me. We need some of these recordings!!!

yes we do need all those shows on cd's and more like all of rca victor shows like inner city and maggie flynn and jimmy and let it ride. we should all try and save these shows before they fade away forever.
Deca cant go away bfore releasing DOONESBURY either. It's crap, but it's beloved crap.
DECCA has pretty much finished with the Decca catalogue. ALl their OCR's from the 40s and 50s have been done.
But DECCA BROADWAY still has a lot of other labels under its care: Kapp, ABC, Polydor, M-g-M.
But do not delay getting some of the more obscure titles: ARMS AND THE GIRL, MEXICAN HAYRIDE, SEVENTH HEAVEN, ANKLES AWEIGH, TEXAS LI'L DARLIN', LOOK MA I'M DANCIN', FADE OUT FADE IN, I AHD A BALL among others will not be around forever and once they go out-of-print we may never see them issued on CD again. WHOOP UP is already fetching $200 + on E-bay.

Decca really should re-realease their old stuff and then stop making recordings of new stuff. I'd much rather see Ghostlight and DRG continue that. They do a much better job and seem much more interested in theatre. If you've noticed, the last 2 new shows Decca has released are the two biggest hits on Broadway- Wicked and Spamalot.
Well it's no mystery about WICKED...Universal was one of the producers. (Universal Music owns Decca.) It was not a guarateed smash when they recorded it. In fact it had opened to mixed - negative reviews. Still I bet they are glad they did.
I do give the label credit for remastering all the older and long out-of-print shows. I mean..come on..SEVENTH HEAVEN? LOOK MA I'M DANCIN'? ANKLES AWEIGH? These sold barely a few hundred copies on LP. I'm glad the put these on CD but they can't be making any money on these.

we need to save as many shows that are on lp and put them on cd and to put shows on cd that have not been recored at all like good vibrations ,lennon and in my life.
To Bryan
The 3 shows you have been campaigning for to be put on CD have no chance. Reality is a bummer sometimes but these are the cold hard facts.
Oh Bryan.
Shows don't get recorded this long after the show closes.
They all had been rumored for cast recordings, but since they all flopped, there is no longer interest in this material, nor will there ever be. Lennon and Vibrations are of no interest to record companies, because there are tons of cd's out there featuring these songs.
I've pre-ordered Baker Street from Amazon. Can't wait to hear it!

Well it is a nice idea Bryan - but it is never gonna happen.
The casts of the shows you mentioned are scattered, and producers have moved on to other projects. Broadway is littered with scores from flops that were never recorded. THE GIRL FROM NANTUCKET, IF THE SHOE FITS, MY DARLIN' AIDA, HIT THE TRAIL, SHANGRI-LA, MERLIN, DAVID COPPERFIELD etc.
I suggest you concentrate on collecting all the flops that AHVE been recorded. Maybe you have already? Do you have any of these 50 fabulous Flops?

God oh mighty, Bryan!
Do me a favor, go out to Tower Records or Borders or whatever music seller you have near you, buy the OBCRs of "Gypsy", "Follies", "My Fair Lady", "Chicago" and "Carousel(The top five of the best musicals ever written in most people's opinion) and please stop complaining that good theatre isn't recorded because it is. "In My Life" isn't good theatre.

Just because a show is a flop doesn't mean the soundtrack sucks!
WORKING, THE RINK, and A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD are all good shows in my opinion (Frog and Toad is especially adorable). We've done them all at my theatre over time and they were received well, especially Frog and Toad - we had sold out houses for our 3 week run, and we had to add extra performances.
No, I'll agree with you RENTingFAME, some flops are actually excellent. (The Rink, as you said. Also, Pacific Overtures and several other Kander and Ebb shows.) However, Bryan wishes that three of the worst shows recently on Broadway be recorded.
