I just listened to the Decca Original Cast album of Mama Mia which it says on the cover is the Broadway version. There is no comparison to the movie soundtrack or what was sung in the movie. I do believe this cast album is better. I haven't seen the stage production but wish I had. Oh well. The movie is a fun show. It has done fairly well at the box office. Now there is suppose to be a sing along version of the movie released at some theatres this weekend.

There's no Broadway cast album of MM, it's just deceptive (not false) advertising on Decca's part.
What is says, I believe, is "Decca Broadway" above "Original Cast Album."
SOmethign to that effect.

That is what I thought too. That is why I was asking the question about this. It says Decca Broadway Original Cast Album on the cover but I had heard differen Thanks for the reply
Yankee is right. It says Decca Broadway, Original Cast Album. The Decca cast recording is just the dull original London cast. Unfortunately, the original Broadway cast was never recorded for commercial release.

Oh, I always wondered why I didn't like that CD but I LOVED Mamma Mia's performance on the Tony Awards... thanks for clearing that up

It's deceptive, and it's not at the same time.
"Decca Broadway" is the branch of Decca Records that releases all of that label's cast recordings. So of course they're going to put their company stamp on it. But it does lead to confusion, true.

The fact that the Broadway version was never recorded is inexcusable, especially since Louise Pitre was such an amazing Donna.
You have to buy her "All of My life Has Lead to This" CD to hear her "Winner Takes It All," which is very Jacques Brel-like and very powerful.

Thanks guys for all your replies and information. I saw the Tony Award presentation of Mama Mia when it was shown and loved it.
It clearly reads to me as: a Decca Broadway release of the Original Cast Album (which is the original London cast).
Louise Pitre, Karen Mason, Judy Kaye and Tina Maddigan were part of the original Broadway cast and are not on this recording.
After looking at it again I am getting the impression that the reason why it says Decca Broadway is because that is the name of the lable. Not the fact that it is an original cast recording of the Broadway cast.
However, I still can see how it would confuse people. It almost confused me the first time around.

It's clear to me as well, BrodyFosse, but if someone didn't know that Decca Broadway was the name of a label, it can easily be misinterpreted. A person could think that because it has "Broadway" in the subtitle, why would it have anything to do with the London cast?
