Posted: 8/11/05 at 2:15amDo you love this woman as much as I do? I've loved her in everything. She was amazing in "Follies." I love her rendition of "Could I Leave You?" She is also supper funny and sweet. We need her to originate another role on Broadway in a musical, soon! Anyone else agree?

Dee Hoty is a goddess and I love her.
Saw her in Will Rogers Follies 3 times (waited for her outside the creepy Pantages stage door in 1992 or 93 for an hour and she was the sweetest person)and saw here in Mamma Mia here in SF. Yes, she is the reason I dragged myself to see the show, and I was glad I did. Hoty can sing anything and turn it into a hit, IMO.
I love, love, love her Phyllis on the Follies CD, and her work on the City of Angels CD is wonderful as well. I listen to her Best Little Whorehouse goes Public CD all the time, as her singing, combined with those wonderful lyrics of Carol Hall's, never fails to fascinate. Her rendition of "Have a Memory on me" from Lost in Boston 4 CD is beautiful as well.
She is one of those Broadway veterens who continually turns in stellar performances no matter what show she is in and she is also one who doesn't "call in sick" all the time.
I always wanted to start a love thread for this woman and was afraid of being mocked, as she is not one of the "stalked after" crowd of performers.
I am thrilled you started the thread cheno!
I am patiently waiting for her return to the boards.

I was sad I never got to see her in Mamma Mia again. I love her rendition of The Winner Takes it All! God, I wish they would have recorded her doing that! She must get a role in a new musical soon! She is missed!

oooh..she must have been good in Mame! She would have eaten that role up...I would have loved to have seen her in Dodsworth at Casa Manana in Texas (I think the show was mounted there in 1995 or so).
It's so hard to find people who appreciate her...WHY??

She was really something in Mame. Of course her singing is spectacular, but she did something different with the role. She played Mame as more of an intellectual as opposed to a freethinker with a kooky edge. She would be perfect if this is ever revived on Broadway. She's at just the right age.
On another note, the Muny is famous for folks fleeing to their cars before curtain calls. (Rude, I know) But I turned and saw almost no one doing this! The cast got a four or five minute standing ovation.

PLaying Mame as an intellectual makes sense. If you read Patrick Dennis's novel, although a bit scattered, Mameis one of those brilliant eccentrics. Look at her friends!
I have no doubt that Dee would make a wonderful Mame. But I would prefer a revival of the play AUNTIE MAME. The musical is great but it gets done a lot, and is kind of a watered down version of the play.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
