Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington, who is playing Brutus in the Broadway revival of "Julius Caesar," has come up with a new defense against pesky ringing cell phones during live performances: iambic pentameter.

Washington told CBS's "60 Minutes Wednesday" that "one of these days I'm going to respond in iambic pentameter: `Answereth that, my lord. My lord, it is for you."

Brilliant idea!

I know there have been other clever incidents with ringing cell phones. One of my favorites was "The New Bozena". It was a show basically about a day in the life of three clowns. They had toy cell phones hidden all over the set, and whenever one started ringing in the audience, they just stopped whatever they were doing, gabbed the toy cell phones and literally went into the house looking for the offending caller, babbling into their cell phones.

The person was always SO humiliated afterwards

You know; in Los Angeles at the DGA they now make you check them in. They have metal detectors in the front and they have a big guy named Emilio standing in the back of the theater. If you snuck a phone in and they see youon it.. THEY REMOVE YOU.

I still like Patti LuPone's response best:

Go ahead, answer it! We'll wait.

Wow, like speaking in iambic pentameter will really intimidate someone to now answer their phone......

Brilliant, Gothampc! When did she say that?

LuPone said it in one of her concerts. Can't remember whether it was during the NYC run or out on the road.

I thought Dennehey was the one who said, "Go ahead, answer it. We'll wait".

What struck me most about the article, strangely enough, is that is says he's making $1,700 a week. Is it me, or does that soud like a mistake?

Patti said the same thing here in Seattle last week...

Good for Patti. A cellphone going on during a show is the epitomy of rudeness.

Sounds like a mistake. Even if he were getting a percentage of the profit, it still seems too low for his star caliber. This is not his Broadway debut.

I live for the day that cell phones are banned from being used in public unless it is for a medical emergency.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Aww, that's cute :)

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.
