My question is can Diana sing it? I know they cast her, but I didnt know she had that range.
Btw, I dont mean that as a diss on her.

Posted: 1/7/06 at 12:57amI don't know, I find this kind of appropriate. I mean, someone who can't sing, and if you're honest, you'll agree that Diana is a weak vocalist, performing in a show which most people thought was the worst thing to hit Broadway in a long, long time.

i was doubting diana before i listened to her sing on that website. i didnt know she had it like that! girl is going nail it! just because she didnt struggle through broadway rejection it doesnt mean you should knock her down. there are a lot of talented people overlooked. atleast the girl can sing. btw brooklyn really wasnt as bad as people made it out to be. i doubt half the people who talk crap about it have actually seen the show.
P.S. OMG MELBA MOORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AH I AM EXCITED!!!

Posted: 1/7/06 at 1:41amI did see it with OBC and not an AM ID Alumni or Auntie Melba. I like the show, But this casting is lame. Melba should be out doing more concerts singing "Lean on Me" - she can still hold the final note next to a minute.

Posted: 1/7/06 at 2:25amSo then she will hold the final note of Raven for a minut...somthing that Romana loved to do.

Posted: 1/7/06 at 2:35amMelba can hold a not for 2 or so minutes if she cared to. She has an amazing voice and control. She made a career out of her voice & acting, and is still working. Even though I think she may be miscast here, I still adore her.

Posted: 1/7/06 at 3:26amWell I am sure she will knock the socks of Raven which is a song sung by the heart.

Diana's vocal range will not be a problem. If you can, get hold of a song from her first CD called "Go on and Cry." That song made a believer out of me. Vocally she's grown by leaps and bounds since AI, although she was extremely good even then at 16.

Have you LISTENED to Brooklyn? It's pretty much pop.

Posted: 1/7/06 at 12:16pmRegardless of what you think of Brooklyn, you hardly need a musical theatre pedigree to sing it. The music is full on American Idol type music. Wailing, and riffing, and all that flashy stuff. DeGarmo needn't have been in a million musicals to make this concert disguised as a show work.

i havnt posted her in a long time but, I just wanted to say keep in mind that Diana was ONLY 16, and she was loud she COULD nail any song but was very untrained/wild still.
She was 17 when she recorded her first album, as she recorded that cd and even after she worked closely with Jan Smith(vocalist) because her voice was getting deeper/maturer. She also had to hire an acting coach during Summer of 2005, for WSS.
If you really wanna go by what you saw on AI3, when she was still learning, you COULD hear hints of possible opera techniques. (like on the shaky but interesting version of 'One Voice') She is probably one of the most diverse vocalists they let get away, Diana was very smart by hooking up with a vocal coach.
also how Coincidental/Ironic is it that Diana and Melba Moore are TOGETHER? [Diana sang Melba's 'This Is It' on Idol.]

What would the chances be of the producers putting together a CD with the touring cast? With a couple Tony award winners and an appealing, talented Diana DeGarmo, I would think they'd want to have one available during the tour.

Give the girl a chance. Regardless of your opinion of American Idol you have to concede that several of the alumni CAN SING Diana being one of them. I just wonder if she can indeed reach the higher belt notes that Eden reached. Time will tell.
As for those who are upset about hearing about brooklyn all the time now. Is it really that painful to see a new thread pop up about it. I assue you if you don't click on it, the bother will not continue. Unless of course your bored and bitter and need to be cynical about it to pass the time. In that case, more power to you.

She's doing both. Word is that it will be official sometime next week that she's taking over the role in Hairspray starting Feb. 7th. She'll leave to do the Brooklyn tour sometime in late May.
So the good news is, for those who hate her, you won't have to endure her for long. ; ) My feeling is that she seems to have impressed a lot of people in the business, either for her vocals or her acting or both. It's not just Hairspray and West Side Story and Brooklyn. Her name was seriously bandied about when Paint Your Wagon's revival was being discussed a few months ago and it's pretty much considered fact that she was offered the "Belle" role for Beauty and the Beast for Spring/Summer 2005 but turned it down due to wanting to finish her senior year of High School. This doesn't seem to be a lark for her, she appears to be very serious about doing musicals.
