She's really great in Hairspray. I was not her fan during American Idol but she won me over in Hairspray. She was my hightlight during my second visit at hairspray.

I will miss Diana in Hairspray, she was fantastic. I will be honest, I had my doubts after being a huge fan of Tracy Miller as Penny, but Diana impressed the heck out of me and then some. It's great she's getting these opportunities to showcase her talents.

If the fabulous Darlene Love ever leaves, they need to replace her with Ruben Studdard! re: Diana Degarmo Leaving Hairspray

Goodbye to Diana DeGarmo, and her splendid voice. She will never recover from what she's about to do.

I think she's had a really good run. I hope to see her in the show before she leaves. Hopefully she'll be back in September to continue with the role again. She's had a good attendance record (she's missed maybe one or two performances due to being sick and she'll miss the one this Friday because of an out of town concert), but you can definitely see that she's dedicated to the show.

I'm going to get murdered by a screaming mob of her stagedoor fangirls for this... but I think she overacts. I'm not saying she's bad in the role (her singing is fantastic), but she's not my favorite. With Penny's character voice/mannerisms/etc (more the voice than anything else), there's a very fine line between funny and just really over-done, and I think she has a tendancy to cross it. It started to grate on me in a couple scenes when I saw her this past weekend.

But she does have a voice on her, gotta give her that one. And she IS a very sweet person. But I miss Tracy.

I'm sorry that Diana is leaving "Hairspray" for now, but I cannot wait to see Diana in "Brooklyn". I'm sure she will be fantastic. As a side note, Diana is going to be Cosmo's singing voice on Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents Monday, May 19, at 8pm.

fwiw, I agree with you. Granted I'm a little biased since I *loved* Tracy Miller in the role, and I've never watched Idol so I didn't know of DeGarmo except for mostly what I've read here, but all I kept thinking when I watched her was "trying too hard" with the overacting.

I will not be part of the squeeing fangirl mob that murders you. :)

re: Diana Degarmo Leaving Hairspray

Good luck to Diana. I am looking forward to her return in the fall and I hope her love of musical theatre isn't soured by a bad experience with Brooklyn (I'm not a Brooklyn hater, I'm on the fence. Don't stone me).
