I remember seeing him in "They're Playing Our Song" a number of years ago in Philly, loved him then, love him still...he's a real actors actor.
And having had the honor and pleasure of spending an evening with him I can say he's just as wonderful off-stage, and very skilled at "Running Charades"!
All the best and congrats to an AMAZING run in Hairpray, he was inspired.

Posted: 8/3/04 at 2:36pmI too was at his last show (and didn't even know it until Jackie Hoffman made a comment during her little improvised moment!) It was a very nice ending and it was great to see Scott and Marc come out as well as his "first wife," Harvey! He had some very nice final words and then the orchestra gave him an official Italian send-off (though at this moment I cannot for the life of me remember the song they were playing!) It was a great show! Interestingly, I also was at Harvey and Kathy's last show. The only 2 times I've seen Hairspray there's been a special ending!

Posted: 8/3/04 at 3:04pmI dont remember it exactly...I just know she came up the steps and said something about it being Dick Latessa's last show. I think I lot of people were confused because a few people clapped but more people seemed more even confused by the comment than realized what she was talking about.

Latessa may be gone.. but there will ALWAYS be plenty of THAT at the Neil Simon, Phanty!
Dick will always be a part of Hairspray, whether or not he is in the show.
