Did "Kiss of the Spider Woman" recoup?

Posted: 5/17/06 at 7:53amJust wondering if this show was just a success, when it came to reviews and awards, or did this show make money? I know sales went up a lot when Vanessa Williams took over the leading role for 3 months(ended up being 9 months after renewing her contract twice) but still not sure about how this show did financially.

I'm reasonably sure it closed on Broadway at a loss. It might have recouped its initial investment based on the umpteen million years it toured, especially if the non-equity tours that went out were tagged to the original.
My guess is, if you can't find anything that SAYS it recouped, it likely didn't. Most productions are notoriously tight-lipped about their investments on productions but are quick to announce how happy they are once the show recoups its initial investment.
