I was watching a behind the scenes look and i remember the director saying ALW hasn't contributed anything to the show. Was ALW ashamed of this production?
I don't believe so. I think I read somewhere that he actually saw it at the Stratford Festival and admired the direction they went with it.

That's sorta what i heard also cupid boy. It's just strange to me that he wasn't in rehearsal with them. I mean it's his music so i would think he would want to carefully see what is being done to it.
Didn't he play Pilate?

i remember an interview and the director was saying that when ALW came to see the show in Stratford. He talked about how they went out after and ALW told him that it HAD to come to broadway.

Really? Thats news to me. Very Interesting.
Wasn't the show produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Company' and Dodgers?
The production started at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and Webber had no involvement with that initial staging. Both Webber and Tim Rice saw it and were vocal about their approval. The show received an additional staging at the La Jolla Playhouse and then moved to Broadway where it was produced by The Dodgers and The Really Useful Group among others. I would assume Webber became involved once his company became one of the main producers of the show on Broadway.
