What did you think?? We thought it was okay... Liked Sarah U. Berry in the lead role, but Chris Seiber (sp?) was just okay... nice voice, but didnt show much acting chops (well, at least in this role).
Lea Delaria and "Lypsinka" were very good, but overall, didnt seem like much of the cast wanted to be there.... didnt seem very spirited. Worst part (other than listening to Renee Taylor singing...Oy!) was the sound quality in the theater...we were in the 3rd ring, and could not hear a thing. I have sat furthur back in many other theaters, and had absolutely no problem hearing.
Overall, it was okay.. but going in, looking at the cast, we expected more.
Saw it through TDF, very dissappointed.
Loved Sarah but the whole production was not inventive and really was not up to par as it should be for NYCO.
PM for questions :)
Agree, Benz... expected MUCH more !!! I really wish that they could have spent some extra money so that Cinderella could have worn two different dresses !!! I mean, geez !!!
how was the dancing? my cousin was a dancer in the show.
Seeing as though the NY State Theatre is huge, some shows just don't translate well here. I remember seeing "The Pajama Game" there ages ago, and the production fell completely flat.
Could that be the case with "Cinderella"? There's a limit as to how big the actors can play it in order for it to translate in a space so large.
My manager saw it and said it was lousy.

It is a lousy production of a not very good show. Seiber looked like he wanted to be anywhere else. Renee played her Yenta mother poorly and to no laughs-isn't this CITY OPERA?- she sounded like a wounded cow trying to sing. Gorgeous costumes... I think a lyric was sung about a "Golden" coach...and in rolls one that looked silver to me! Those Chorus Line vets cannot direct anything but productions of Chorus Line. Poor choice and poor casting.....
Saw it last night-Third Ring. The production never 'congealed.' It was like watching four separate shows-The Lea show, The Lypsinka show, The Nanny's mother show (WHO let this woman sing?) and Cinderella. The sound was bad. The dancing was uninspired. Berry was fine.
What a shame - it can be such a lovely show when done well. I love the script of the version with Lesley Ann Warren...the updates just don't work for me. I had originally wanted to see this production - but now I don't.

Sorry to hear that. Just the other night my manager, agent and stylist and I were drinking Caipirinhas, celebrating the fact that a certain cheap company finally came through with a royalty check. (Yes, this means you, Ubu Productions. Bad dog.) Eventually we got around to talking about how much we love Lea and John Epperson and what inspired casting that seemed.
Lea and Lypsinka are usually alone on stage getting the laughs and glory. Neither wants to give that up, and a lot of their actions/reactions had nothing to do with the story. Maybe out of desperation the director encouraged them.

hey dottie, that's a great picture of you!!
I saw it on sunday and I must admit it was alright, nothing spectacular. I could have done without hearing Renee Taylor singing, but I digress. Sarah was great I thought. Lea and Lypsinka were my favorite parts of the show. The sound was pretty poor in quality. The front horse on the carriage was having a hard time standing still, it kept bucking too. Overall it was a good show I thought.
damn it!
I was going to go just to hear Christopher Seiber sing "DO I Love You Because You're Beautiful" but If it sucks and he's over his life being there, I may just go to La Cage....
damn!
