I didn't say anything at the time because it was a totally unfair judgment, but I remember thinking this show had "amateurish" written all over it when the press photos came out.

You know, I think a lot of people are probably just "over" Dracula. The story has been done to death in countless adaptations in various mediums and people are getting their vampire fix from "True Blood" and the Twilight series.
BTW, I saw a production of the Steven Dietz version several years ago done by some pretty accomplished people and it too was a snooze-fest. And for some reason, the pacing in that show was also really, really slow. Dracula would speeeek heeeees liiines so veeery veeery slowly in his unavoidably campy-sounding accent.
