As someone who actually KNOWS Bernie, let me tell you that this makes me sick. If there's one thing that man is not it's a racist. I know this is board is mostly anonymous but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take it from me, someone who really actually knows this man and knows what a fantastic person he is and just how hard he works to pull in new talent from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY that he is anything but what people here and on other message boards are saying.

His remark was accurate, not racist. I have heard this "complaint" from many casting directors for several decades now. There are just not a lot of professional African-American or Asian actors to choose from when they hold auditions and are running several all-black or all-"ethnic" shows.

Open calls are a necessity, and it's STILL hard to find people.

If that's news to some of you, then take it as such. But it's a true statement, and you should know it. And if you're African-American, and you have an Equity card and you're dedicated and a talented singer, actor and dancer, you're probably going to work a LOT, regionally and in NY. It doesn't mean you'll be a star, or that roles and shows will be written for you, but you are likely to be steadily employed.
