I think that there were talks of that this show was going to be the next tenant of The Neil Simon. I understand that there have been shows that have gone on tours billed as "pre Broadway tour" and have plans fall through and it ends up closing on the road. However, I doubt that that will be the case with Dirty Dancing. Considering how big a hit this show has been in every place it has played in worldwide, I doubt that they would have put this show on tour without setting up plans for it to be playing on Broadway.

My college is doing a day trip to Boston on Saturday and I just might check it out. However, I will be going in knowing full well that I am expecting to see a train wreck.

By the by, does anyone know where I can find a list of what days they are and aren't doing student rush at The Opera House? Anyone know if they will be doing it Saturday?

Your best bet would be to either call the Opera House or check out the Broadway in Boston website.

I definitely would never have paid full price to see it, but I felt I got my $44 worth. I can understand why people wouldn't like it for not being a typical musical, but I didn't expect it to be. I knew I was probably seeing the movie on stage, but I just sat back and had fun with it. The singing was great, the dancing was wonderful and I liked the staging, which was cinematic and kept in the spirit of the intended style of the show, which was specifically NOT to be a traditional musical. I think that's one of the reasons I really hated the Grease revival in London. It used some of the songs from the stage production, but attempted to reenact the scenes from the film while throwing in stuff like a laser animated car chase, which took the audience out of the period and gratuitously through them a scene written solely for the film, while trying to straddle the fence of being a independent stage production. It didn't help that the audience talked and chatted in full voice through all the book scenes. At least the Dirty Dancing audience seemed to genuinely want to be there to see the entire show, not just listen to the songs.

No, the Opera House does not usually do rush on the weekend.
