re: Disney Shows taking over Broadway???

Well, i find nothing wrong with Disney musical, which i have seen. To me The Lion King was beautiful, i loved it. As some one else said, they wish to see Mulan come on broadway. If it did, Donny Osmand better be in it! After all he was in the movie.(his voice anyways) Someone else metioned Litte Mermaid, well thats classic Disney and i think it would do great on broadway, it wouldn't be any POTO but with Cheyenne in it, it would be great!

Well seeing how Disney pretty much saved the Bway Theatre District from looking like filth I pretty much don't have a problem with it. As long as they are good shows why not have a bunch of Disney shows? Of course I do want original ones more than anything but Disney movies/shows are my passion so what the heck.
I do want The Hunchback of Notre Dame brought to bway seeing how it was a sucessful German musical and it has the most beautiful score Alan Menken has composed. And I would also love Mulan, Newsies and I totally want Nightmare Before Christmas!!!!!!

Yeah exactly...as long as people are entertained. And the majority of people are. Not every single show has to be original and thought-provoking.

They're big moneymakers, hundreds of people are employed, so what's the problem? Broadway is a business.

Sorry, I just have a big chip on my shoulder towards Disney. They’re such a big machine, and they have SO much money… it just seems like they make it harder for others to compete. But I realize they do good shows so I guess it doesn’t matter. And kudos to the fact that they employ actors and musicians.

But that's not cheating, really. If anything, that messes with the economics of staging a show (which does trickle down to ticket buyers). But if they can front that amount (and they can) to be able to get the best creative teams and performing talent, then we're not really cheated.

re: Disney Shows taking over Broadway???

i have no prob with disney shows, they are really enjoyable, and well done, but i just hope none of them become like "longest running show in broadway history" just because the disney company can back it up, but with other shows, it relies solely on their grosses and stuff, so yeah, i dunno, just my opinion
(sorta confusing, but i hope u guys know what i mean)

I would love to see Pocahontas on Broadway, and I look forward to The Little Mermaid. I just hope that Disney closes another show before opeing two. Not only would Disney not be "taking over Broadway", but it keeps the shows from from going stale. I think BaTB is coming close or already there.

i think Mulan would be a great stage production, since i LOVED the movie! and if they cast lea salonga as Mulan.....thatd be really awesome. the whole tarzan thing is scaring me a little. what are they gonna do, have AHHHHHHHHHHH sung in 4 part harmony or something?

Beauty was the 8th highest grossing show on Broadway last week. (Last week, in fact, Beauty grossed more than Chitty, which is playing in a larger theatre). Can't imagine it's going anywhere anytime soon.

Yeah Beauty and the Beast seems to be doing very well in the box office...not going anywhere soon.

I really enjoyed Lion King and thought AIDA was awesome! So sad that AIDA didn't play longer.

However, Beauty and the Beast needs to go away. And as far as Im concerned Tarzan sounds like it would be a mess.

However, I would like to see Hunchback of Notre Dame in english playing on Broadway. The story strikes me as very theatrical.

ALADDIN ALADDIN ALADDIN!!!!!

I need to see this done lol./...

Also someone mentioned Nightmare before Christmas, that would be awesome too, I loved that movie. Danny Elfman is so frikin awesome!

Disney has good movies and does a great job at making them turn out well on stage. I don't mind if they bring Disney to life on stage, I have faith in them personally.

I dunno, that's my opinion. I just think in some cases more songs need to be made, which isn't too bad, as long as they can fit in nicely and are done well.

Go Disney is what I say!

re: Disney Shows taking over Broadway???

i personally still don't get why this "debate" keeps coming up... people say Disney is taking over Broadway but there's not real substantial argument... i'm pretty sure this is all just personal opinion with no real valid stuff to say.... am i right or wrong? i personally have no problem because the shows are good... it's a good night out at the theater

re: Disney Shows taking over Broadway???

The Mouse is definately a big machine - I don't really like the corporation or any of its shows...but other people do, and there's still theatres empty right now, so why shouldn't a Disney show fill them? It's why they make chocolate & vanilla - there's room for everyone.

re: Disney Shows taking over Broadway???

I agree with everyone who says that The Hunchback should be brought to Broadway. By far the best (musically) of the modern Disney classics. That said, I would much rather see The Little Mermaid, (which had good songs) than Tarzan, (which had terrible 80's background music that belongs in grocery stores). Pocahontas also had great music, but part of what made Pocahontas' songs so great was Judy Kuhn, and those are tough shoes to fill for whoever would get cast as Pocahontas.

Oh god give me Nightmare Before Christmas!
